Hi/lo 24 with battery hook-up in series?
 

hello i just installed a progressivedny. 4045kv power control center. i made all the control hookups. no blown fuses no tripped breakers. so far. i now am now getting 26v at the interior lights any ideas where i goofed? thanks Bob R.:confused:

You have to put + from both batteries together and - from both together or you will have 24 volts and burn a lot of things up fast.

Bob? Forgive me, but from your post it SOUNDS like you intentionally connected the batteries in series to create a 24V power supply in the trailer.

A 12V battery at full charge will normally deliver around 12.7V, so, if you connect them in series, you're going to get about 25.4V (which is very close to the voltage you measured). You did nothing wrong, in my opinion, if that was the effect you were after.

But, did you replace all devices, lights, etc., in your trailer with 24V equivalents? The wiring shouldn't be a problem, since 12V wiring is heavier than 24V wiring. But, your water pump, lights, electric brakes, and so on won't like the increased voltage. Are you possibly towing the trailer with a vehicle that supplies 24V charging voltage?

As kwdstalker said, the usual setup is to connect the batteries in parallel - + to + and - to -.

Many people have wired the batteries in series, but it's when you are using 6 volt batteries(used in golf carts).This wil give you a 12 volt supply to your trailer with a larger Amp Hours capacity because of the thicker plates in 6 volt batteries.

If you have 12 volt batteries you need to wire them in parallel to get 12 volts.

I switched from 2- 12volt batteries which gave me 110 Amp Hours to 2- 6volt batteries which gave me 235 Amp Hours. I consider the Amp Hours as run time or reserve capacity.

hi gang this is Bob. I first want to thank all of you & all your help. I have to clear up my problem. A while back I cooked my Elixir ELX45 converter. I bought a new progressive dynamics PD4045 power control center. many chats with their tech no help. I called Hi/Lo & a guy called Tom wanted me totally modify the new converter! no way I finally tamed the 24v/12v glitch Yea! now
I lost my AC side. I rung out all the heavy red-black-white control wire. The new GEN. DY. is a lot simpler layout. Any help in taming the AC side would be a big help + i will owe you a beer! Thanks Bob R.:confused:
