Hi lo cable

Old hi lo cable broke, bought a new one and it broke. What could be causing this? 1991 fun light

You sure the new cable wasn't to short? The cables are all different lengths on the older trailers. Are all the pulleys in good shape? The cable wasn't rubbing on metal?
