Hi-Lo camper issue with raising and lowering

Hello, can anyone tell me what could be wrong with the raising and lowering of my Hi-lo. It will go up and down only when plugged in. I assumed it was the battery so I just purchased a new one and it didn't help. I'm sure it needed a new one anyways because the old one was outdated. It goes up and down perfectly fine but only when plugged in to a generator or regular outlet?

Welcome to the forum. Check the position of your master switch for going up. When lowering, it is just gravity. Make sure it is off the safety bar. Also, check all of your fuses.

RCREYES,
Thanks for your reply. I will tell my husband when he gets home. We are new to Hi-lo's and we have a Manuel and it mentions disses but we have looked everywhere for the guess and can't find them. I know that doesn't make sense and they aren't where the Manuel says. This camper is in great shape for the year and everything works great. This is just odd to us and we know it's minor since it's no problem when plugged in. I hope that's it. Thanks again.

sorry I'm trying to respond and having issues with my cell phone as I type. I meant to say that according to what the manual it says the fuses are in a certain area and they are not in that area and we have looked at every knook and cranny and can not find the fuses. All we have found is the breakers.

TT - I don't think your problem is in fuses. The shore power cord being plugged in should not cause the top to raise or lower, because it doesn't supply enough power. The top should ONLY raise on battery power. If you disconnected the battery, I doubt having the shore power cord plugged in will allow you to raise the top. I suggest you try that and see if I'm being truthful.

One more thing - do you hear anything when you move the lift switch to "UP" with only the battery connected? The lift switch actually energizes the solenoid on the lift motor, and THAT solenoid switch, when it closes, completes the heavy wire circuit to the battery that allows full battery power to flow to the lift motor. Do you hear a "click" in the motor area when you move the lift switch to UP? If so, I think the wiring from the battery to the lift motor itself has a poor connection, possibly due to corrosion, or, something may just be loose. If this is the case, having the shore power cord plugged in may just supply sufficient power to help overcome the faulty battery connection. It DOES add to the battery's voltage, which can bridge a weak connection.

Thank you everyone for your comments. We know for sure it is the solenoid. It does go up and down with the power cord plugged in though so we will camp this weekend then get it Monday. Thanks again everyone.

I just spent about 34 months working through an electrical raising and lowering issue. Looks like it was a bad solenoid
