Hi Lo Fold Out Cover
 

Good evening - We have a 2002 2302LX with the fold out couch.

I came across these photos of the little fold up roof over the fold out couch. Does anyone have this that could post a few pictures of how its attached and operates in the down position? seems like this is appropriate for closing off the giant hole in the side of the camper when the top is down. Image link below.

I've never seen something like that. Possibly, a piano hinge at the top of the door? Seems a good idea for the tipout.

Seems like they are on a lot of the new campers.... I saw it on 4 different sales ads.

I have a 2703 Tow Lite with the same cover and a lock on each bottom corner. Gas struts hold it up after unlocking it. It is well sealed all around and I'm sure it was standard equip. It is a piano hinge at the top. I'm in the NC mountains now, 27'er is in SWFla, so, sorry, not pics.
But I am curious about that box sticking out under the tip out. What is that?

Sam, I think the outrigger is the small black square/rectangle behind the "box". I'm with Tree - what the heck is that boxy thing?

Here are pictures of my new-to-me 2709T
I'm not thrilled about the method used to hold down the cover. HiLo used a plastic camlock/strap. I'm not sure I trust that going down the road.
Any ideas for a more secure method?

Those hold the cover down pretty good. I recently replaced mine.

I have the same thing on my 2005 27T, which has been from Southern California to Massachusetts twice and once up to Calgary, Alberta, Canada and have never had a problem with the clasps. I did replace the straps several years ago.:)

I think I'd be nervous about the plastic camlocks too. I finally replaced my plastic fresh water drain valve with a metal one because the OEM plastic one kept degrading due to UV in sunlight and breaking.

You could mount hooks on either side of the lid and then stretch a bungee cord over it. The cord would likely need to be replaced every season, but I think it would work. Or, hooks to hold a cloth cargo strap with a metal camlock that you could stretch over the lid?

Thank you Ruben and Garry for your success stories with the cam-locks/clasps. I can't seem to get mine very tight. Maybe I just need to replace mine for a better grip.

Jack, you are correct. Nervous is the word I was looking for. If the front one were to fail going down the road, the wind would lift it like a sail and create all kinds of damage. And having the gas shocks pushing it open just makes matters worse.
I believe all car hoods have a safety catch, in case the main latch fails.
And I think I read somewhere it is best practice to use the RV doors' deadbolt and not rely on the spring loaded latch when traveling.
So, I'm thinking of either replacing or augmenting the strap & cam-lock with a more positive latching system.
I'm considering a stainless slide bolt, the kind that requires you to lift a lever before sliding.

If anyone has success with this or a different method, I'm open to suggestions.

The slide bolt idea seems a good one to me. Perhaps you could check out what's available at a hardware/home improvement store to get the proper size. I'd get one that is secured with a lock, although you would not have to use a lock, just use a spring clip kind of thing that would prevent the lever from lifting and the bolt sliding loose (kind of like the clip that's used to keep the trailer towing ball shank in the hitch receiver on your tow vehicle.)

Joule -We replaced our straps with similar plastic ones from an RV supply after our cover popped up going down the road! However,my husband is not really satisfied with them. He doesn't like that they don't hold the cover down tightly as you have stated with yours. He too is considering the type of latches in your link as well. I guess we've been waiting for a better option but haven't found anything.

This is the “tip out”-we had a slide.

We have have our HiLo for over ten years without a problem but have replace the clasps and straps once ( from J and R) just to be safe. Beach

As I said eailier, mine were replaced with locking hasps. The hasp has a large hole that goes over the lock, insert key and rotate lock 90 degrees-safe AND secure. Wish I had a pic. I'm in the mountains and trailer in FL.
