Hi Lo trailer for expedition rv
 

We are building a vehicle for an expedition RV. The base vehicle is a 10 wheel drive truck that is designed to haul a 20 foot shipping container on the bed. The issue we have with a container is that the vehicle would be 13 feet high. We are looking at the possibility of mounting a hi Lo trailer to the bed and attaching it with the existing container locks. The trailer would have its axles and tongue removed. A cross member containing the container fittings would be added to the front and rear of the trailer frame. Additionally fork pockets would be added to the underside of the trailer frame. The fork pockets would allow us to remove the trailer.

The truck has an onboard 10 kw generator and propane tank.

My questions are

What size trailer is about 20 feet from the front of the body to the back?

Is there any thing under the trailer that extends more than 4" below the frame rails?

How high is the lowered trailer from the bottom of the frame to the roof?

the 22 footers are about 20 feet long without the tongue or rear bumper. I can get an exact measurement later today along with the highth and I'll check if anything extends down. I think the tanks may but not not sure.

The frame would need to be supported in the middle as well as each end. With no support in the middle it would sag enough that opening and closing the bottom half door, might be impossible as it would get pinched.
As Fireballsocal said a 22 ft TowLite model would probably be your best choice.. The sewer pipes are lower than 6 inches, but he will probably get you some actual measurements.

The trailer from rear bumper to front rock guard is just under 20 feet in length. Removing the bumper won't net you much usable space as the tail light lenses stick out almost as far as the bumper.
Highth from the top of the AC unit to the bottom of the frame is aprox. 62 inches and the width with the awning is 97 inches.

Quite a bit sticks down below the frame. At the front, the battery compartment sticks down the furthest but that would be removed when you remove the tongue. The side storage boxes and skirting stick down below the frame quite a bit but look to be easily removable. The fresh water tank sticks down between 1-2 inches. Some of that is insulation but how much, I can't tell you. The black tank and dump valves also stick down. The black tank about 2 inches and the dump valves are below that.

Nothing looks to be insurmountable but I'm looking at it from a casual gear head kind of way.

I ended up getting a 2305!
