Hilo awning

I purchased a 2004 hilo and it didn't have an awning on it, it takes an 18 ft,/ I approached a rv dealer in Henderson , Colorado that actually sold this camper new when they were a hilo dealer and they are trying to find me a new awning, well carefree of Colorado doesn't make one for these anymore/ You guys have any ideas or even a used awning frame I could get new vinal for.

The only difference in the Hi Lo awning and one from a normal trailer is going to be the legs. The Hi Lo used short braces that clipped into brackets on the upper half of the trailer. My suggestion would be try to find an awning that doesn't use the normal trailer leg system and instead just uses stake down legs. There are some called "awning in a bag" that you can find that may serve your purpose.

You have a few alternatives. As Misfit mentioned, you can get a roof-mount awning: Carefree of Colorado

You may be able to use an awning intended for a truck camper and mount the lower support on the lower part of the upper body on your Hi-Lo:
Carefree of Colorado. If you read the installation instructions for this awning it states that the bottom bracket needs to be 37"-50" below the bottom of the awning case. I believe that the Hi-Lo upper is taller than 37" but I'm not sure.

I built my own out of PVC pipe and a tarp. You can see pictures of it in my "2nd trip successful" post in pictures thread. It cost $65 instead of $600 and takes about 15 minutes to assemble or take down. I will gladly share the plans if interested.

I believe that both Midget and JR Repair carry the brackets. My awning is a Dometic 8500. If you can find someone with the same trailer as you, have them get the model number off the awning. I need to replace my fabric as well. I went to Camping World to get a quote. I took them all of the numbers I could find on my frame and they even knew it was for a Hi-Lo.

getting an awning

If you can secure the hardwear/arms then a canvas shop might be able to fabricate you a nice sunbrella awning. Some have just used an easy up shelter. You tube has tutorials on how to insert the fabric.

8500 Dometic awning

Im pursueing the Dometic awning as carefree of co no longer makes one for a hi lo, if I at least had the framework I could buy new material to put on it but without that I have to keep looking, Thanks for the help

Dometic made most of the awnings for HiLo, at least for the later models.
