Hot Water Tank Filling Question

It is best to fill the WH by hooking up to the city water connection. Pumping the 6 gallons from the tank will take a while and will add needless wear to the pump.

Depends too - maybe your HWH was bypassed for winterization? If so you will need to open the water lines into the heater before trying to fill it. Be sure there is water in the heater tank before firing up the heater.
Once the heater tank lines are open, it still won't fill until you open a hot water tap, with water pressure in the line. Gord. |
Hot water filling
I agree with all other post. If you won't to be sure the tank fills all the way before you start it up, just open the pop off valve when it starts poring out water the tank is full. Then you can safely start the h/w heater on gas or elec.

I used the pop off valve to fill ours the first time, and it worked good. The valve was a little sticky at first, and didn't seem to want to open or close fully, but after a squirt of WD40, it worked great.

Filling hot water tank
Are you referring to the temperature and pressure relief valve when you say pop-off valve? Thanks, Jeff

Jeff H,
That's correct Jeff, sorry for the slang :) Neal |
Thanks for clarifying, Neal!
