Leaving it in the "up" position?
 

Hi, We have a 17' hi-lo towlite which we plan to leave at our vacation property. We want it to look occupied, so we would like to leave it in the up position all summer with lights and radio on timers. (We have electric hookup) Will it harm the trailer to be left up for a few weeks at a time? We can lower it when we visit periodically.

There are many here with much more knowledge than I have on Hi-los. I don't know what kind of strain is put on the cables by leaving it up all the time. I do know it is not uncommon to see hi-los (used ones) in dealer's lots left up for months at a time so they can show them.

Cut 2x4's and support it at the frame rails (they are in about a foot from the sides, not at the sides) to keep the weight off the cables, I'm going to be living in mine for about a year so that's my plan...

I'm pretty sure the people at Hi-Lo built it to be up on the cables because it's pretty useless when it's down...

We left our HiLo up for six months while we were doing our restoration. By using the 2x4s it takes the strain off the cables. I stained and put finish on them so they would look nice. See the pictures under Off Topic 1990 HiLo Restoration.

Just remembered to tell you to check your battery water level every month. DH says the converter will boil the water off. It will over charge it when always plugged into electric. Use distilled water only. Just cover the top of the plates. You might consider buying a "new high tech converter."
