I only have a plate showing three letters and then five numbers. We wanted to know if we would have to pay b]ack registration for it.

Didn't see VIN so no make and model we have no clue

Didn't know if we could see the whole VIN we looked but we haven't bought it yet. We were thinking of doing so for $200 which is a good price from a friend. But we didn't want to buy it if we have to pay a lot of $ for back registration.:(

Maggie, that alphanumeric string starting with "BBB" is in the VIN position, so I'd say that's the VIN.

As far as paying "back registration", I don't see why you would if you didn't own it then. But, your State's DOT should be able to tell you if you would have to do that.

Thank you so much jack and Janet. I appreciate the heads up. Does it indicate Year and Model or is that on the title when we get it.

Maggie, your message didn't indicate the length of the trailer. In California anything under 19ft. has a one time registration, which is good for the time you owe the trailer. Several years ago I bought a trailer here in Southern California which was previously registered incorrectly. When I registered the trailer I was told there was $600.00 in back taxes due, but since I was not the one at fault, I did not have to pay the back taxes, just the current registration.:)

Interesting, Garry. So the 19 ft. rule applies to RV trailers as well?

Yes, RV Trailers are included. My old trailer was a 21ft but had been registered as 19ft. I was at a gas station in Mojave when a CHIP officer pulled in and told me I had the wrong registration. Didn't cite me, just told me I needed to get it corrected.

Garry, we are gettting the title info from the owner and registration info so we can call DMV and see. It was put to scrap but the owner of the scrap yard knows my hubby so he is checking info for us where he normally wouldn't otherwise.
