good afternoon....new guy here with a new to me 1985 hilo trailer....i've never had an rv before so i'm pretty green,,,i've been tinkering with it all day and cleaning it up,,,i tried to run the fridge and it isnt getting cold...i have no manual for it so i'm not even sure of the procedure to turn it on....also the slider gate valve for the grey tank is leaking...i bought a new valve and it is a valtera...the one that came off it is a greentec...the greentec fittings have for little tits on it and the valtera valve hits before i can get it tight...can i just file the tits off or are there other problems with using valtera valve on greentec fttings?...thanks in advancs

Default Welcome to the forum

I'm sure some of our fabulous tech guys will be along to answer your question. The ref. takes 24hrs. before it gets cold. Not like your home ref.

Welcome, keystone! The refrigerator is not like the one in your house. It uses ammonia to cool the inside and it reaches a cool state very slowly - I allow 24 hours for mine if I'm running it on AC (house current) power. It cools more efficiently on propane, but even then it will cool down slowly. Use DC power ONLY when traveling. It will drain your trailer battery FAST.

You might find a manual for your refrigerator elsewhere in this forum, or, if you can determine the make and model number, online after a search.

I can't help you with your grey water blade valve. Most are just plug and play. I'd be reluctant to change the mounting seats on your pipes though - you might end up having to replace them and that would be a big job involving putting a new one into the tank. I think I'd look for a Greentec valve. Other members may have better advice, so stay tuned.

- Jack
