Hello all,

Great site. I have been searching here and everywhere on the web. Trying to find a source for a window replacement for a 1989 window that got taken out by the door lock. You can see exactly what window on the attachment.

Any idea where to find a window? Or will I have to fab one out of lexan?

The best place I can find so far is to have a new window and frame made. That will be about $350 from this site Easy RV Window Replacement

Do you think removing the old frame and taking it to a local glass shop would be less expensive?

I feel certain you could get a replacement pane of glass or plexiglass made at a glass shop for less than $350. I've had several pieces of glass or mirrors cut locally costing less than $50.

You have nothing to lose by removing the frame and asking around.

Thanks, as I was doing these searches I was thinking of the local glass shops. I have never used one and did not want to assume they would be less expensive. Always best to hear from someone that has gone that route first.

You will have to get tempered safety glass for that I'm sure.

Plexiglass or Lexan or something similar would be fine too, Rich.

Yes, I forgot to mention it. I just had the safety factor in my mind. Like storm doors, etc., you can only replace the glass with tempered glass or plexiglass/lexan.

I believe the mfg of the HiLo windows is Kinro. They are located in Elkhart, IN. Go to their website and check out their radius rv sliding windows. You might be able to get a replacement piece from them. The phone number is 574-535-1125. Probably best to have your measurements ready when you call. You might want to invest in a door stop bumper to prevent this from happening in the future. Hope this helps.

Zaphod2319, I broke our same window on our 1990 Classic. The jealosie window broke when I was directing DH into our parking spot. The fence didn't budge. Our fence layout was wrong concerning the gate placement. It has since been corrected. Our HiLo dealer had a local glass shop do the repair. Start by getting a helper and placing a ladder outside the window. The other helper is at the window inside undoing the trim ring screws. Go outside and gently use a putty knife to go around the edge and break the caulk and butyl tape. Maybe several passes. Have a set of saw horses ready to lay the window on it. Remove the butyl tape from around the window frame(doesn't have to be perfect). Take the window carefully to the window repair shop. You might get a recommendation from a RV place. Next clean the exterior fiberglass with googone,dry and clean with your favourite cleaner. Have a roll of 2inch butyl tape on hand for reinstall. You will also need a tube of Lexal caulk or Sikaflex caulk. When the window is reinstalled the excess butyl tape will squish out and can be trimmed off with a butter knife. Then the caulk applied around the exterior of the window. While the window is out you will be able to see the condition of your interior wall. All your windows should be taken out and reinstalled with new butyl tape and caulk. You can do this as we did all our windows (6). Headphones with your favourite music helps or a boom box. When you are done with all your window I will tell you how much a window costs. Having a helper is handy. Some of the window removal can be done with the HiLo in the down position. As JR or Midget if they have the special door bumper you need. My HiLo is covered for the winter. Can anyone take a picture of the door stop? Helpful tools include a garbage can.paper towels,rags and glass cleaner. Two five in one tools for scraping old butyl tape off. Each window takes a roll of butyl tape. Hope my instructions make sense to you.

Thank you Sam. Perfect sense. I own a 32 ft sailboat. rebedding hardware with butyl tape is a requirement.

I learned something new about boats. Many marine boats parts adapt well to RV applications. The parts take vibration and work well in small spaces.
