Is it wise to buy roadside assistance service for towing and tire changes, etc.? Could someone please suggest the best company to sign up with? Does AAA cover travel trailers?

AAA has AAA RV Plus

AAA for 22 yrs now they have RV PLus

Been doing some more research. Something commonly said for Good Sam's or Coach Net is that they know about campers where as AAA normally only deals with cars and the people on the phone are of little help. Plus, they're cheaper.
I have AAA on my car already so that's a plus. Would still appreciate more input, particularly from people who have needed roadside help and how well they were treated by their provider.

We have had Good Sam RV Emergency Road Service for over 15 years and am quite satisfied with them they take care of Lock out's and tire and will tow not only the Tow vehicle but also the trailer to a repair shop. Hope this help you some.

Very helpful, thanks. I'd about decided on them and just needed some conformation. I think AAA has a towing mileage limit and, as I said, someone commented that AAA phone contact doesn't know the difference between an RV and a bicycle. Just one opinion, of course.

We signed up with AAA, as we already had them with our cars. I didn't research it, so would like to hear from others who have fouund the best and worst ones!

I decided on Good Sam. My understanding is there is no towing mileage limit as with AAA and they will tow trailer and tow vehicle if necessary. Also, I get the idea that they are trailer specialists, not auto, and may be better at understanding particular issues. Saying all that, I hope I never need them!

What is Good Sam we only have AAA here.

Good Sam Club is a national rv organization. They offer many services to the rv'er that some companies do not handle. Many campgrounds across the country give a discount to members of Good Sam Club. They offer road side service for a yearly fee as another service. They enlist towing companies all across the country for this service - just like AAA. Good Sam is rv oriented, unlike some other roadside service companies. Their logo is a round red circle with a cartoonish man's head with a yellow halo in it.

I had a lift cable break years ago. I replaced all of the cables. Big job! Fortunately this happened in my drive way. I needed 2x4s, cinder blocks and a farm jack just to lower the top. Since then, I have been paranoid about this happening on a trip. I lubricate and check the cables as much as I can routinely. The thought of taking a farm jack, extra cables, and the associated extra tools for the potential break down, is not appealing. Does anyone know if Good Sam road service would come to a camp site to get the top down so that you could at least tow you trailer home. Thanks.

Since you have replaced your cables I wouldn't think they would break again. You keep them lubed up. I have heard good things about Coach Net. With any road side service it depends on where you break down. Time of day ect. To lower a HiLo with broken cables it would take four strong men one on each corner. Carry the proper size jack ect.to be able to change your own tire. This is a poor design on some HiLo's. You have to let the air out of the tire to mount it and or take the skirt off.

Thanks for the reply. Last year I adjusted my cables to compensate for stretch. I had to remove the wheel to have good access to the cable adjusters and was reminded of the requirement to let the air out of the tire to get the wheel off and back on. Just to adjust the cables became a big chore. So, this year I signed up for Good Sam’s Road Side Service. I wouldn’t want to have to change a tire on vacation. Then I thought about what I went through when a cable broke.

We also have had Good Sam Roadside Assistance for 15+ yrs. It is part of CampingWorld/Gander Mountain stores. What’s good is it covers all owned vehicles and both spouses for one cost. We’ve just experienced, this week, a tow mileage limit for our auto in order to get it to the brand dealer.
