RV Repair or Auto Shop??

iT IS TIME FOR MY HI LO CAMPER 2009 19T TO HAVE THE HYDRAULIC-CABLES GREASED. SHOULD I TAKE THIS INTO AN RV DEALER WHO SERVICES HI LO'S OR CAN MY MECHANIC DO THIS? I HAVE BEEN TO ASHVILLE, NC STATE PARK, LANAIR CAMPGROUND, SURF CITY/HOLLY RIDGE, NC THEN OTTER LAKE CAMPGROUND, MARSHALLS CREEK PA. I LOVE THIS CAMPER!! I NAMED HER "JUST ENOUGH" AFTER TAKING HER CAMPING LAST YEAR AND THEN THIS YEAR. SHE IS JUST ENOUGH FOR ME AND AS I TOLD MY TWO DAUGHTERS I BOUGHT HER FOR "ME". I HAD THEM BOTH WITH ME AND MY GRANDDAUGHTER FOR THE ASHVILLE TRIP, THEN DAUGHTER AND GRANDDAUGHTER FOR THE SURF CITY TRIP. IT WORKS, TIGHT BUT YOU SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME OUTDOORS. IF SOMEONE WOULD POST HOW I CAN UPLOAD PICTURES, I WILL. KEEP IT VERY, VERY SIMPLE. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP I LOVE THIS SITE AND THE PEOPLE ON IT YOU HAVE BEEN LIFESAVERS. JANICE:)

Janice, a mechanic could certainly do it, but he/she needs to get to the upper portion of the cables, and that means taking off the interior trim at the upper top of the lower half (inside). *whew!* It's not hard, but it's something that the mechanic might not be aware of. AND, I doubt a standard RV service place would know about it either. With the interior trim strips off, the upper pulleys are exposed and the last bit of cable is also exposed. Then, they can all be sprayed with water displacing lube. (HiLo recommended WD40, but many of our members think some other kinds are better.)

If you look at a section of that upper trim, you'll see the screws holding it in place and you can point out this need to your mechanic.

You will also want your mechanic to clean an lube the guide bar under the trailer with grease. This is probably AS important as lubing the cables.

I'm pleased you're having such a good time with your camper!

Jan, might also point out the Hi Lo can't be jacked up with a floor jack randomly as it can and will twist the frame! Check your manual for correct jack placement.

Routine maintenance

I vote for finding an RV place that can do this. Any one know of a link or utube that shows how to do this? Plan B take a vacation to Niagara Falls,NY and our HiLo dealer can do this for you.
