And so it begins

Started tearing out the wall by the shower today, also discovered that the work done by the previous owner needs to be done again, I have taken some photos and will update as I go along, I hope to have the wall off later today so I can get it done right :D

Finally dug out the insulation that was in the bottom of the wall, took me a couple of hours to clean it up

Here is what was behind the repaired portion that was done by the previous owner, glad i had a look at it before I covered it up, tomorrow off to one of the home improvement places to see what kid of sealer I can paint on the roof, no sense in doing any replacement without sealing up the roof, when I removed the portion that was fixed already I seen 8 different places where the light was coming thru the wall

Fixing your HiLo

Thanks for taking the time to post pictures..I'm sure when we fix our delamination your experience will help us. Your daughter is adorable in the picture. We are finaly going to get two days without rain. Routine maintenance is on our long list of things to do

Did some more dismantling today, took down the cupboard on the door side, removed the paneling on the same side in the bathroom and also went towards the door, one thing I like is that the paper in behind the insulation tells me how far I have to go, when it is dry I stop, have also spotted more holes where the water came in, I have uploaded more photos to my photo bucket album

Repair

The worst part of any job is getting started1 I showed the pictures to my hubby so he knows what he will be getting into next year. I wish I had a big heated garage so that he could work on it during the winter. You might want to remove your dinette cushions so that they don't get dirty. sam

I have finally removed all the junk in the back walls of the trailer, I have found quite a few small holes on the outside skin, I was debating on whether the replace the skin or just cover them with a sealer, not sure on what i'm going to do with them, now I have to figure on how to remove the whole back panel from the inside, i'm not sure if I can remove it that way and i'm doing this outside so I don't want to remove the outside end cap

The walls on the back half of the hilo have been removed, today I did seal the voids from the inside, I went to Home Depot and purchase some water proofing tape, it has a foil backing and is very sticky on the other side, picked up some sealer for the roof and also the insulation and my wife picked out the wall board that will be going in this week :D I have uploaded a few more photos to my photobucket page of the progress

I did find that the roof had already been patched in the bathroom area, it is on the left side as your standing towards the rear, was there something there before? I have included a photo as to where the roof was patched

Just tested the water system and there are no leaks, hooked up a couple of wires that the previous owner had taken apart and I have shore power, waiting for the verdict on the fridge, hope the darn thing works, will continue removing another part of the wall and hopefully have most of the panelling finished off this weekend!

I think if the freezer is working, the whole thing will. It takes about 24 hours to get stabilized.

Jack I sure hope your right as I will not be purchasing an new fridge for the camper in the near future

Pipers Family 06-24-2011 09:43 PM

Thanks for the pics- wondered what it looked like behind those walls- Your new walls look great.

dirtfan 06-24-2011 09:55 PM

Jack, the temp has dropped 10 degrees since I plugged the fridge in so i'm hoping it's good to go.

Pipers Family, I did the same kind of rebuild to my popup camper but didn't take any photos so this time around I have a new phone with a great camera and I have been taking some every time I do something in it.

I guess I have to look into borrowing a truck to use it soon, I have a 99 Ford Ranger but i'm sure it won't cut it, the Ranger only has a 4500 lb GVRW and has 179,000 miles on it.

Now to test the air conditioner soon, not really interested in seeing if the furnace works in June and July

dirtfan 06-25-2011 07:41 AM

Success, checked the fridge this morning and it has cooled off, now I guess it's time to see if the air works, too bad I don't have a 30 amp feed to try it.

I haven't mentioned it in this thread but I only paid $800 for this unit, it came with a WDH and a sway bar, I have about $100 into it so far and the biggest expense will be the tires, they look good but are more than 10 years old and i'm not interested in taking a chance with them

Where did you find the new interior wall paneling, did it come with that finish on it or did you add wall paper? Do you know the manufacturer?

dirtfan 06-25-2011 12:07 PM

Les, that isn't wallpaper that's the way I bought them, they are 4x8 sheets and are found at Menards, they cost about $16 or so

dirtfan 06-26-2011 08:13 PM

Need a little help, i'm not sure if I did the right thing but I removed all the clearance lights and used a elastrometric sealer behind them, put it in the wire and screw holes, should I have used something else?

https://www.hilotrailerforum.com/atta...bd61f64233.jpg

Also where do I find the seals that go on the top of the windows?
