To BUY or NOT to BUY a 2010 -2510H unit

that is the question. I like the HI-LO concept so I found a 2510H that is for sell. But since hi-lo has closed it's doors would this be a smart buy, it's in great shape but I just have my doubts. The new expandable T.T. is an option but don't know much about it except in my humble opinion it does not compare to a hi-lo.
Any advice/opinions would be appreciated.

To buy or not to buy

Is this trailer at a RV dealer? What is your tow vehicle? The only think unique to a HiLo is the lift system and the seal between the top and bottom half. All other parts and systems can be found in any Rv store or on the internet. Anything that goes wrong with a HiLo if fixable. Take the time to read back posts. We do have a repair facility called J&R in Buttler Ohio. Our HiLo dealer is in Lockport,NY. Near Buffalo,NY. They will ship parts anywhere. Where are you located? City or state? Good luck in your decision. We are here to help you in any way we can. Welcome to the forum.

Just because Hi-Lo closed it's doors is no reason not to buy it... Very little of the TT is specific to Hi-Lo. All the appliances are available and are still being put in other TT. Hydraulics should be able to be maintained by a hydraulic shop. Cables can be made, search the forum.

If you do buy it, I would buy a complete set of cables and pullies while they are still out there, maintain the systems and you shouldn't have any issues.

Roofing, siding, axles, brakes, lighting and other electrical is replaceable by other means.

Like I said, very little of the TT is specific to Hi-Lo...

Buy buy buy!!!

By all means Buy Buy Buy!!! I've had my '84 since about '94 and I've loved every minute of it. Just got back from 3 days @ Heron Lake, NM with the wife and our 10 yr old grandaughter. Her first camping trip and I'm glad to announce... A CAMPER IS BORN. She had such a good time canoeing, fishing, swimming and bikeriding that her mother told me she hasn't shut up since we got home, two days ago. Now her 4 yr. old brother wants to go next time.
Like the other members said-very few Hi-Lo specific parts. I can still get parts for all the appliances, brakes, etc. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new unit! CAMP ON!

2000 Model 22'

To all,

Not familiar with the forum protocol and/or proper use, but we've located a 2000 model 22' and I'm wondering if there are any unique details/problems we need to be aware of for this particular year/model unit. We realize this is an older model so we're just trying to make sure we look for any problem areas that are unique to this model.

Any guidance/assistance you could give would be greatly appreciated.

To buy or not to buy.

Look up the price of the trailer www.NADA guides.com Make sure the trailer doesn"t have roof rot from setting on the lot for two years. Match up what your truck can safely pull with the weight of the trailer. Does your truck have the tow package? Will you be towing in on flat roads and or in mountains? Are you young enough to use this trailer for 17 to 20 yrs.? Do you have enough $ for a weight destributing hitch and sway control ? You will also need a brake controller. $ for ins. and other must have items for camping, ins for the trailer, tax, title and registration fees. Only you can decide. Of course ,we all are gunho about owning our HiLo trailers.

Welder,

I'm not that knowledgeable about these things, but must say that we bought a 1995 or 1996? -can't remember 24-ft Towlite and we were able to get everything we needed for it, no prob. We did take it to J & R which is not too far from us. They did take forever, were not good about returning calls/waited till the last minute etc, nevertheless got the job done. Like others said too, parts can be ordered elsewhere as well....

I don't know if that's a fair price or not.

Also, what is a "T.T.? " Travel trailer?

You say it's expandable --does that mean it' has a pop-out? Even the guys at J& R said they did not like the pop-out aspects of the Hi Lo's though for what it's worth.

Or possibly it's called "expandable" merely because it's a Hi Lo and goes up and down?

See? you can tell I'm not very knowledgeable....LOL

This was taken from NDgent's post here on the forum. It is a great go-by list. You can do a search of thinking about buying and find his post to read it first hand.

Basically, start with the visual items –
1. Exterior
• Look for water stains and discoloration on inside walls and around ceiling anywhere vents, skylights, windows, etc. exist.
• Push and prod with your hand on the inside walls for soft spots (which could indicate a water leak and a damaged or rotten interior wall).
• Check for bubbles in the wallpaper (a sign of delimitation or water intrusion)
2. Interior cleanliness of the unit-
• Look for water stains and discoloration on inside walls and around ceiling anywhere vents, skylights, windows, etc. exist.
• Push and prod with your hand on the inside walls for soft spots (which could indicate a water leak and a damaged or rotten interior wall).
• Check for bubbles in the wallpaper (a sign of delimitation or water intrusion)
3. Test appliance functions –
• lights
• fans
• refrigerator
• air conditioner
• heater
• water pump
• range hood
• stovetop
• oven (if equipped)
• microwave (if equipped)
• stereo (if equipped)
4. Lift System-
• Does the unit raise and lower properly
• Check the lift system for hydraulic leaks (puddle under the trailer)
• Check the lift cables to see if they are in good shape and not frayed
• Check the seal between the upper and lower body halves for tears or damage
5. fill the tanks to the top and check for leaks
6. Battery
7. Solar Panel (if equipped)

Google "used hi-lo" and you should get listings all across the US. This should give you an idea what is being asked on the market---of course "asking" is often higher than "final sale". At that money I would INSIST that it is gone over closely and anything amiss replaced- also have them pack bearings and grease lift mechanism etc. Check DOT codes on tires and if they are older than five years ( yes- that COULD be the case on a 2010) have them replace tires. Do you have a weight distribution hitch? If not- I would see If i could get that as part of the deal. These are all things I wish I had known when I bought mine. At least- it gives you some items to bargain with. The above list is a great one for checking it out. How does that price compare to other travel trilers on the market of same vintage and size. Personally,I believe hi-los will hold their value but it is a niche market ------so how long does the seller want to hold onto it waiting for THAT niche buyer or does he want to move it off the lot oe out of his yard?

Good luck

Rick
