Top and bottom seals ?
Anyone know what the current material is? What I have looks to be aproximately a half inch round grey nylon or plastic, foam filled..which has dry rotted inside the foam material. If the J and R folks don't have it who might?
Thanks for any replies |

thanks Les
Are you replacingthe seals yourself? Keep me posted on how it goes. I would love to see a close up photo of the new product if you have the means to post or email. Thanks much for the reply:) BTW, I will be pulling my Hi Lo with my 05 Taco TRD. I havent pulled it with it as yet,but I have no doubts it will do a fine job with the Hi Lo. Mine is and old 2585B model, but it is like new, theonly problem is the seal, the foam has failed.. |

Thanks for that info TJM..my TV is a 2005 tacoma truck..someof us call them Taco's..:)I pulled it for years with a 305 Chevy car with no issues, but only used it three or four times a year. Been sitting in the basement for the last 15 years and hasn't moved. I agree with you, it must be a little labor intensive, thats why I was hoping to hear from someone who had tackled it DIY..I am pretty mechanical, but I am also gettin a littl old..

Top and bottom seals
we have a 1990 HILo classic and our seals our shot /rot. We will replace them when the cables break. In the meantime hubby purchased Pipe insulation for 1/2 inch copper tubing-grey foam. Stuff these in on the outside to compensate for the lack of a good seal. Remove before breaking camp/traveling. An inexpensive lt. wt. fix and some insulation..We got ours at Home Depot. Take care Sam.

Thats a good idea Sam, that would allow use until the seals can be replaced.
You may wait a long time before a cable breaks. I remember some older man that had been with Hi Lo telling me in 1985 that they had never (at that time) had a cable to break. He said they were the same kind of cable used on small airplanes to operate the wing flaps and rudders. I bought a spare anyway, and have never needed it, but then again, we haven't used our trailer all that much. Thanks for the reply:) |

What is the tow limits on your Tacoma and how much does your Hi-Lo weigh?
My Tacoma is rated for towing 6500lbs, as I remember. It has the TRD package which includes the tow package with HD cooling for the transmission. I think the 25ft 2585b Voyager has a dry weight of 3,850 lbs or so.. Thanks for the info above, I found the parts web site photos of the rubber seal material. From the looks of the photo, it kinks somewhat. Anyone have that type seal, and if so, what are your opinions. Thanks again |
