Default Top and bottom seals ?

Anyone know what the current material is? What I have looks to be aproximately a half inch round grey nylon or plastic, foam filled..which has dry rotted inside the foam material. If the J and R folks don't have it who might?
Thanks for any replies

The new/current material is rubber bulb seal, J and R should have it. I also have the gray/foam seal on my trailer. I got the new style seal to replace the old, but right now I'm redoing all the roof seams and fixing a leak behind the awning.

thanks Les

Are you replacingthe seals yourself? Keep me posted on how it goes.
I would love to see a close up photo of the new product if you have the means to post or email. Thanks much for the reply
BTW, I will be pulling my Hi Lo with my 05 Taco TRD. I havent pulled it with it as yet,but I have no doubts it will do a fine job with the Hi Lo. Mine is and old 2585B model, but it is like new, theonly problem is the seal, the foam has failed..

I talked to the folks at J & R and they wanted $1100.00 to replace mine. So, I feel that it must be a little labor intensive.BTW. What is your tow vehicle?

Thanks for that info TJM..my TV is a 2005 tacoma truck..someof us call them Taco's..I pulled it for years with a 305 Chevy car with no issues, but only used it three or four times a year. Been sitting in the basement for the last 15 years and hasn't moved. I agree with you, it must be a little labor intensive, thats why I was hoping to hear from someone who had tackled it DIY..I am pretty mechanical, but I am also gettin a littl old..

Default Top and bottom seals

we have a 1990 HILo classic and our seals our shot /rot. We will replace them when the cables break. In the meantime hubby purchased Pipe insulation for 1/2 inch copper tubing-grey foam. Stuff these in on the outside to compensate for the lack of a good seal. Remove before breaking camp/traveling. An inexpensive lt. wt. fix and some insulation..We got ours at Home Depot. Take care Sam.

Thats a good idea Sam, that would allow use until the seals can be replaced.
You may wait a long time before a cable breaks. I remember some older man that had been with Hi Lo telling me in 1985 that they had never (at that time) had a cable to break. He said they were the same kind of cable used on small airplanes to operate the wing flaps and rudders. I bought a spare anyway, and have never needed it, but then again, we haven't used our trailer all that much. Thanks for the reply

Hmmmmm.....What is the tow limits on your Tacoma and how much does your Hi-Lo weigh? My tow limit states 5,500 pounds. Trailer dry weight is 3,700 pounds. So, in theory, that means I could still go an additional 1,800 pounds. Well, as I have been told, figure on 80% of your suggested tow limit as a safe rule of thumb. So, 80% of 5,500 is 4,400 pounds. I would not even consider going that high. Last year, while heading out to the West Coast, we pulled some pretty steep elevations and were over 8,000 feet up and believe me, that was high enough. Didn't experience any overheating or anything, but just wasn't that comfortrable. If you know what I mean. We are leaving again for the West Coast, from Missouri, into Oklahoma,Texas, southern New Mexico, southern Arizona and into Alpine, California before heading up north to Bodega Bay, California. Will keep you posted as we go. We are leaving home (St.Louis County, Missouri) April 12th. By the way, our Tacoma is a 2001,extra cab,SR5,4wd,automatic with 130,000 miles on the "clock"

Hey Les. Make sure we have sunny and dry weather when we meet in Bodega Bay. Tom

What is the tow limits on your Tacoma and how much does your Hi-Lo weigh?

My Tacoma is rated for towing 6500lbs, as I remember. It has the TRD package which includes the tow package with HD cooling for the transmission.
I think the 25ft 2585b Voyager has a dry weight of 3,850 lbs or so..

Thanks for the info above, I found the parts web site photos of the rubber seal material. From the looks of the photo, it kinks somewhat. Anyone have that type seal, and if so, what are your opinions. Thanks again
