water heater brands
I need to replace the water heater in my hilo.
It appears that many are available. Any preferences as to brand and model. Pilot or not is not an issue. $ is of course. But longevity is of prime concern. I would be inclined to do a tankless and know of the concerns of others. I also have tankless in my home and have no problems with the limits. Are there others on this forum that have done the tankless conversion? I might also add that I am a plumber and the work related would not be an issue. TIA steve |
Here is a recent thread on the subject of water heaters.

Old post on reconditioned water heater
I know $ is a concern so you might consider a reconditioned one. We like the DSI feature on ours. Just flip an inside switch and it lights up. No having to go outside. Ours is a Suburban and the tech support has been great. So far no trouble with ours!! Hope it stays that way as they are expensive.

Atwood and Suburban are the main brands used in RV's. My HiLo uses a 6 gallon Atwood. It is a dual unit - runs on electric and propane with electronic ignition.

I was told by Greg the gentleman that use to own J&R NOT to use the anode rod in the Atwood water heater. Supposedly it's not needed in the Atwood water heater and the two different metals will react with one another and you'll almost destroy it trying to remove the anode rod because the two metals will freeze together.

Suburbans, on the other hand, require an anode rod. Without an anode rod, the suburban tank will eventually be destroyed. |
