water heater gas valve

I have a problem with my gas valve on my hilo.
I believe that it needs to be replaced and wonder if anyone has changed out their valve and can give brand and any specifics.
I am a certified gas man on home systems so ability to do the work is not the issue.
Valve will not give pilot only full amount of flame which is able to be turned up and down with adjust screw.
Gas is the only true dangerous part of our RV's and this problem needs to be fixed before ANY use.
TIA
steve

Steve,

Are you sure it is the gas valve? You didn't say what year unit you have. Does the stove top burners work ok? The problem could possibly be the gas regulator at your propane tanks being bad. Several members here on the forum have had to switch out their gas regulators and solved their problems with gas flow.

Water heater/gas problem

We changed out the regulator at the propane tank on our 90 Classic. We weren't having problems, but felt it was time. We also changed the exterior bottle hoses. We wanted more information on our suburban water heater so we called the co. and they e-mailed us a lengthy information packet. You could look up your water heater on the internet.

thanks for the responses.
All other appliances work fine and as they should.
Water heater has no pilot flame and does not decrease in flame when dial turned down after lighting.
Valve is a unitrol and is no longer produced, has no markings nor legible info. this is where a picture is worth a thousand words
I will call J&R when back home and have proper tools to install.
The main thing is the depth of the temp probe and input and output port placements. If I mess with it with out the replacement part I will loose ability to use all gas.
thanks
steve
