Is my water pump supposed to turn off automatically when we are not using water? Or do I need to turn it on and off manually?[COLOR="Indigo"][/COLOR]

Hi - I think all water pumps are pressure activated. If you lower the pressure in the lines by opening a faucet, the pump will come on rather quickly. When you close the faucet, the pump will normally shut off within about 2 seconds.

If yours doesn't work that way, the pressure switch could be defective or, you may have a blown fuse or, the pump itself could be toast. Start troubleshooting by checking the fuses first.

There IS a switch you turn on though when you want the water pump pressure switch to be active. Look for it in the vicinity of the tank status lights and maybe the refrigerator fan.

However, if you are hooked up to an external water supply (shore water?) you DO NOT use the water pump. The external supply pressurizes the system all by itself, and, the water pump would not work.

Thanks Jack. The pump pumps water when I turn on the switch with the faucets open. But when I closed the facets, the cap on the end of an extra (?) line near the pump popped off when the pressure built up (someone forgot a hose clamp) so I wasn't able to test the pressure theory. Glad to see that I was thinking in the right direction. Now I need to go to town for some hose clamps.

It's also a good practice to turn off the water pump switch when you leave the trailer for any length of time. Same thing if hooked up to city water supply- turn off the supply valve. If a bad leak were to develop while you are gone, it could get pretty expensive!

Great advice. I had a busted faucet this winter In Florida and lucky I was there when it happened. That said, I shut off water whenever I leave as well as water heater.

Thanks for all the advice. I got a hose clamp, the pump will shut off when the faucets are turned off. The hot water heater works! We are well on our way to figuring all this out!
