What are your favorite window coverings?
 

Our new to me Hi-Lo is missing half the curtains. What are your preferences for window coverings? I could make new curtains from fabric that I already have or I could buy some mini-blinds. I have seen those RV window coverings that pull down and just sort of stay by themselves and they are awesome, but too pricey for us right now. We're trying to keep it cheap. Any thoughts?

The choice is yours to make. I have seen trailers use metal blinds, wooden blinds, roman shades, and regular roll up window shades. I still have my factory day/night shades with narrow curtains covering the sides of the shades. Just make sure that what ever you use, it is heavy enough to give you privacy and block out light.

Other than making curtains to fit, the cheapest I've done (when replacing worn out factory day-night shades) is to get off the shelf mini venetian blinds from Home D or Lowes, They'll cut them to specified width at no charge, and its not difficult to shorten them to proper length. I put the mount clips in the same location as the original shade mount clips. The decorative valences, original to the trailer, may take some inventivness to remount, as the mini blinds hang further away from the wall than the original shadfes (I left mine off).

I used aluminum mini blinds (v. the plastic type), because they won't let light through when closed. We prefer to not give sillouette shows to our neighboring campers!

Since our '95 is not airtight we have curtains. We keep them in a plastic shoebox when we travel so they stay clean. The rods have a clip in the middle to hold them on while moving. I sometimes wish that they were a heavier fabric at 6:00 when the sun comes up.

We went to Target and Walmart and purchased thermal backed long curtain panels. We think the panels were by Eclipse and approx $13 per curtain. We measured up the windows, cut them large enough to provide good window coverage, and sewed a 1 inch seam. The termal backing does a nice job of preventing light from coming in.

we use regular household blinds and also my wife took bath towels that matched the fabric colors in the unit. When closed it is dark dark :D
