Window Curtain Removal

Karen and I want to get the curtains cleaned up. We got the ones off the door, but cannot figure out how to get the ones around the windows off. They have velcro at the bottom to hold them in place, but feel like they're sewed in to the valence at the top. What's the secret handshake to remove them?

They are actually stapled on. You will need to remove the valence. The screws that fasten it to the wall are behind the trim material. You'll be able to see the staples once removed from the wall. use a small flat blade screwdriver to pry up the side of each staple then a pair of diagonal cutters (dikes) or needle nose pliars to remove. There are a bunch of em.

When I tugged on the top of the curtains and they didn't even budge I figured they were fastened with staples or sewed in. Taking them down might be a rainy day project then. When/if we do take them down we might sew in velcro so the valence doesn't have to be taken down.

While you are fiddling with the curtains in trying to get them down, make sure you put something underneath the curtain and on the ledge where the top and bottom of the Hi-Lo meet. Some of the staples will just fall out, and if you don't have something to catch them, they end up in the crack between the top and bottom parts of the Hi-Lo body. We haven't had to deal with cleaning the cornices or curtains yet, but we have found staples on the ledge after we have raised the Hi-Lo. I guess towing on slightly rough roads might have jarred them loose. Some people we have spoken with in campgrounds who have purchased their campers used indicated that they had an upholstery cleaning service come out to their home and do a thorough cleaning of sofa, cushions, mattress, cornices, and curtains. I assume this is some type of dry cleaning and could be expensive. There certainly must be some type of do-it-yourself dry cleaning without taking the cornices and curtains down from the windows.
