Brainstorming for storage
 

We have a 2003 Hilo (Towlight) with the drop down bed. I'm thinking about taking out the bed and installing 2 ceiling high 36x12 cabinets on each side of the trailer. Some units have this option originally. Comments on storage comparison? Also, does anyone know about the panel beneath the fridge -- looks like a false panel, wondering if I can put in a drawer?

We purchased a '99 24' Tow-Lite and are wondering exactly the same thing. . . seems that the good side of the Hi-Lo's are that they are more aerodynamic, but that also comes with the price of storage. I'll be anxious to hear of any replies or solutions that you may come across.

Some people take the mattress off the bunk and use the space for storage. I guess that is controlled by what you want to store.

Look in from the back side of the fridge to see if there is any kind of space showing. Someone here probably knows.

Storage problems can be dealt with with a little thought.

What do you need vs what do you want.
Do I need to change my outer clothes or just my socks and underwear after a shower.

Can you find items that can serve more than one purpose.
Do I really need multiple pots and pans when a pot and a frying pan will do.

My only suggestion would be to be real careful about how much weight you are adding to your unit, both for what you will be carrying along with the storage unit itself. Typically we put a lot more lumber into our projects than the folks who originally built the trailers. Also, I've noticed that the weight limits on the axle and tires don't leave much room for additions.

In our case we have a canopy on the back of out tow vehicle (P/U) and a sliding bed on the bottom, so we can store whatever we want in the and get to it easily. That includes all sports gear, out-of-season clothing, spare everything; even the microwave and other portable appliances go back there. It gives us more room in the trailer and lessens the risk of overload.

I would assume the space below the refrigerator has pipes or something and is not an empty space for a drawer or cabinet. I was happy to see the 2 cabinet doors beneath the couch in our 17' Towlight and thought it was more storage space - but there are also pipes running along the floor in there.

Get a van and use that for storage. Problem solved

Plastic storage boxes won't hurt the pipes. We use plastic shoe boxes all over the place, won't break and are pretty water-proof and mouse proof.
