Break away switch
 

I have a 1992 22' funchaser. Does it have a break away switch?

It had better! If it doesn't you should get one installed.

As Rich said, it should! Look for a metal cable (maybe 1/8" diameter) coming from underneath the trailer tongue (in the vicinity of the safety chains).

The free end of that cable attaches to your tow vehicle. The other end is already attached to the breakaway switch. If the hitch separates from the tow vehicle, the cable pulls the switch open, which applies the trailer brakes. Of course the safety chains hopefully keep the trailer more or less behind you too, and they will if the trailer brakes are applied. If the brakes are not applied, the trailer will easily turn and probably flip.

The breakaway switch is something you should test now and then.

Agreed! According to Idaho state law, it is required. And remember that when passing through other states, the towing laws of that state must be followed.
