Programmers
Hi
I have a 2004 ford expedition with 5.4L and was wondering if anyone has used a programmer to improve towing? I would like to know if they are worth the money or are they just snake oil? Thanks |
My 2005 F150 has custom tunes from Power Hungry Performance applied with a CTS programmer (www.phptune.com). I would not tow without them or this device, since it allows me to monitor additional engine parameters like Transmission Temp, Cylinder Head Temp and Battery Voltage.
In addition to improved driveability, I am certain it improved my gas mileage some too. - Jack |
programer
morstang,
I have a 2000 F250 7.3L 4x4 ext. cab and have used a programmer since about day 2. It increased HP, improved performance and mileage. I have a heavy duty camper shell and even with the watered down diesel, when I'm not towing I get 20-21 mpg if I keep it between 65 and 70. When towing our Hi Lo, i get 13-14mpg and even better on level terrain. It has another higher setting that I could go to that increases HP by 90 and supposed to "spin all 4 wheels' if so inclined. I set mine on the 'safe tow' setting for normal towing use. When I towed heavier RV's, I installed an exhaust temp gauge but hardly ever refer to it pulling our Hi Lo. Yes, I think it is worth it Jerry Curtis 2406 T. |

I bought the Hypertech Power Programmer 3 several years ago and have been very pleased with the improved mileage and extra hp. Here is a link to it: Hypertech Power Programmer III; 1999-00 Ford 7.3 litre Turbo Diesel engines cost is $288. There is one being offered on Ebay for a 2000 7.3L Diesel that has another day before the auction is over. I believe it may work on your 1999 model but I would make sure before offering a bid. It has just a $40 bid on it right now. Link: HYPERTECH POWER PROGRAMER III 7.3 DIESEL PROGRAMMER ANALYZER | eBay Hope this helps. Jerry Curtis 2406 T F250 7.3L SD 4x4 |
