spare tire placement

Is there any other place to stow your spare tire other than the front under the propane tanks, have to raise the trailer to get to the tire have a
1995 funchaser 22 foot?

Mine's over the back bumper. You MAY be able to find a rack that can be attached there that would allow you to do that with yours. It has to leave enough room for the top to come down in front of it though (space between the rack and the bottom half of the trailer.)

My 1999 22 foot classic has no other place for the spare, although I wish there was some place to put either the spare or battery than what the factory provided. I would like to do a dual-battery setup, and some Hi-Lo's have them in the tongue where the spare is on mine and yours too.

The back bumper solution would involve cutting the plastic cover to the bumper, and interfere with putting a bike rack or auxiliary shelf back there. The only other thing I can think of is throwing the spare in back of the tow vehicle, in my case an SUV. I just don't like any alternative.

Spare tire bracket

I'm considering cutting spare bracket and welding a hinge and hasp so it will drop down without having to raise trailer... any suggestions?

On mine, there is a plastic cover that is secured by a bolt that comes up from the bracket, that you would still have to loosen before letting down the spare. And you wouldn't be able to remove the spare from underneath unless you cut that bolt off. If you cut the bolt off and come up with another way to fasten a cover over the tire, maybe it would work. Or just do without a cover, which would not look too sharp.

The other issue I can think of, is there enough clearance under there to actually work with getting the tire out and re-installing it from below, or if so do you want to do that in the rain at night on a gravel road? If I had to move the tire, I would think seriously about the rear bumper mount Jack mentioned. It would be a lot more convenient there.

Spare tire bracket

Well the only thing the nut at the top on mine does is hold the cover down. I had a situation where I couldn't get my spare out because trailer wasn't able to be raised... not exactly fond of crawling in mud. gravel or rain but sometimes you have to do what you have to do! Got plenty of room under there so that's my plan.

Don't know anything about the Funchaser so what I did may not work. I mounted the tire over the double axle and put two 3/8th x 3"inch galvanized carrage bolts thru two of the lug bolt holes then slid a 1/2 inch thick round plywood plate on the underside and secured it with fender washers and wing nuts. I clear coated the plywood to help preserve it.

Hmmm... I'm thinking about changing a tire on a muddy highway and having to get to that spare. Just me..
