Heading back from a long 4th weekend.

Antares 07-17-2011 10:25 AM

Just got done replacing the old non-working fridge with a standard A/C only compact fridge. We never camp anywhere where there is no electricity, so it seems like the most cost effective option for us now. When we load up the food and hook up we will just toss in a frozen gallon jug of ice to keep things cold on the road.

The old fridge - pulling out the screws along the side edge

The backside - more screws to remove, electrical connections, and blocked by the sewer pipe, a gas connection. The gas connection was extremely difficult to remove thanks to the sewer pipe getting in the way of getting any tools back there.

The old fridge finally free and slid out

While waiting on a friend to help me hoist fridges over the doorway, I spent some time replacing the broken water pump. The new model matched the old almost exactly and cost less than $70 from Amazon: SHURflo 2088-422-444 2.8 Classic Series Potable Water Pump

New fridge - a little shorter than the old one. Hmmmm...

Adding an inside sheeting to keep air from blowing in through the vents and to keep the insulation back. I plan on adding a drawer in this space above the new fridge but ran out of time this weekend.

Just wondering..............Wouldn't it be better to put the drawer on the bottom? That way you wouldn't have to bend over so much when getting things out of the bottom of the fridge. If you are like me, the drawer is going to become a "junk drawer" anyway.:D

Typically the top of the fridge area becomes the 'bar' where mixed drinks are poured. The plan is the drawer right there will hold the bar utensils and such so it is all within reach. Bending over into a drawer when half in the bag is what I'm worried about. :-)

Replacing the ref.

You sure had a "bear" of a time getting that ref. out. Save the racks, door and all hardware. Some HTF members have had to pay dearly for parts. Probably could make a little $. Our dealer had to install our ref. twice. The brand new ref. smelled like burning wire. It was because some insulation fell down and the smell was burning propane. They got to bill Dometic under warranty. I too thought you might want to install the drawer at the bottom. Hubby said to do it at the top.

My 2209 TowLite came with a drawer on top of the fridge. I understand the reasoning of putting it at the bottom but I don't think I would like that.

How about a drawer and a pull out cutting board? Then you would have more room for the martini shaker, glasses and ice bucket.

Well I did my first fill test of the freshwater tank today. As I was dumping water in, it was flowing right out a 4" hole where the drain line used to be. This oughta be fun!

Sailing on a boat!

Reminds me of taking the ferry to Kelley's Island (Ohio) for a weekend of fun! Enjoy!

With two new additions to the family (one dog, one small human), we decided that the Hi-Lo didn't fit our needs any more, and we upgraded to this guy. 2013 Crossroads Z-1. Walk around queen, dinette, sofa, and triple bunks. We just spent a week in it on South Bass Island.

What is the ferry charge to get to the island?

Antares 09-29-2012 08:05 AM

It was about 125 round trip.
