A/C Power Cord
 

Can any of you experienced HI-Loers explain why the A/C power cord (on my 1997 24D) comes out of the rear wall and over the upper and lower walls and plugs into a GFI plug.

Why was this wiring not included in the bundle running from the upper unit to the lower unit.

Has anyone moved this wiring from the "plug-in" to direct wiring?

I understand the GFI concept.

With all due respect to those who wish to be helpful, I don't need to hear "I guess....." or "I think......" or "it probably......." I need help from someone who KNOWS. I already think, guess and have figured out all the "it probablys".

Since I can't use any of those phrases, :D I'll just tell you this: In my 1707T, the AC cord is exposed between the top and bottom halves (in the bathroom), but it does not seem to plug in to the top or bottom. As far as I can tell, it is hardwired behind the wall at both ends.

Thanks. My cable, apparently travels through the overhead somehow and comes out an electrical hatch on the rear wall of the bathroom. You must pull the conventional plug from that hatch, then across then across the upper and lower wall to a conventional receptacle mounted in the "closet". If one lowers the top without unplugging the A/C, it will pull the plug from the receptacle OR cut, rip or in some other manner destroy the cable. This cable is not visible unless one really looks for it. To me this is unacceptable! IF all the other wires come down through a "wire bundle" why can't the A/C wires be included in that bundle???

If I can locate mine without removing ceiling or walls they WILL be included in that bundle. So far, I've been unable to "fish" it out.

The A/C cord IS on my checklist, however, it is inevitable that I will forget it.

The a/c cord is to "stiff" to be included with the cloth sleeve wires. When the top is lowered, the current sleeve wires are flexible enough to move with the lowering and not pull, break, or disconnect. The a/c wire would not allow this flexibility if it was included in the cloth sleeve. On my former 1995 HiLo, the outlet plug was located directly across on the outside of the wardrobe from where the cord pulled out of the rear wall. Maybe about 6 - 8 inches between the cord and the plug. My current 2001 HiLo has the a/c cord coming out of the bottom of an overhead cabinet and the outlet is on the wall near the floor.

The plug is usually is 20 amp with the blades at right angles and will only fit into the 20 amp receptacle. The receptacle seems to always be in a hidden location, like on the side of the wardrobe cabinet, close to where the cord is stored.

Thanks to all for the information. Guess, I'll just have to live with it. I had NOT given thought to the "stiffness" required for the heavier wiring.
