Earthquake 6.0 in Napa, CA

:eek:We and the hilo survived the big one! Thankfully the hilo was down and at the storage yard when it hit at 3:20 am. It did jump off the tongue blocks like must of the trailers there. No damage to the trailer! Ready to go camping! Also we are OK, no damage to our home (I rebuilt it a number of years ago with interior shear walls with extra ancor bolts into to foundation and 1/2" shear on every outside wall under the stucco) Lost alot of glass in the kitchen, took 2 1/2 hours to shovel it out and clean.

Les,

Glad you guys are safe! Stuff can be replaced, lives can't. We'll put you guys and the others out your way on our prayer list.

Les,Glad you and your family are okay. Must have been scary. I hope your home owners covers the glass damage.

Glad all is now well.
I'll trade you 1-2 annual tornadoes for once in 25 year tremors?

Not a chance.

Les,

Just sent you a private message to see how you fared and then discovered this thread. Glad to hear all is well with your family and trailer! We were in Windsor at the time and it woke us up but that's about it. Saw all the damage on the local news that evening so glad to hear you made it out with only minor damage.

Luckydog,

The earthquake was centered in West Napa, about 4 miles from our house. They are saying that the houses on the East side of Napa fared far better than those on the West side of town. The West Napa fault has not had any activity on it for thousands of years, so they never expected it to break open.

The damage that you see shown on TV of the damage downtown is because of unreinforced brick buildings that have been around since the early 1900s.

The damaged roads and broken water mains are all from West Napa. There were 90 broken water mains in an area suffering from severe drought, which is very sad.

Being shaken awake and tossed out of bed at 3:20 AM can really get your adrenaline going. We were without water for a few hours and without power for 6-7 hours. There was stuff broken on the floor in just about every room. Fortunately the house stopped moving before all our pictures fell off the walls, so only one broke. We worked cleaning up the house from 3:30am to 10:30 PM on Sunday.

We learned some very important lessons. One is to never leave red wine bottles on the dining room table. Because that red wine will make an absolute mess when it falls off the table and breaks open. Another important lesson is that when you live in California, you need to be diligent and secure your furniture to the walls.
