Gas Prices

I know we all like to complain about gas prices when they are high, but thought it might be fun to hear what prices are currently like in your neck of the woods?

A gallon of gas in our area is now cheaper than a gallon of milk! I bought unleaded for $2.99 in the California central valley this weekend. Thought I'd never see under 3 bucks in California again but I'm sure most of you can beat that price! :)

notanlines 11-03-2014 06:31 PM

Greg, there was an article in our newspaper (The Commercial Appeal) last week when gas prices bottomed out at $2.39 at a few stations in south Memphis. Mostly it was in the neighborhood of $2.49 or so and that is where it is today. Tough noogies that we burn diesel I guess. It doesn't seem to vary much.

Wrascal 11-03-2014 06:36 PM

Where my neighborhood joins the main four way Loves just built a truck stop -coincidentally, directly across the street from another truck stop.

Before they opened last month, gasoline in our town was typically 12 cents higher than in the nearby city. Competition has now put our towns gas prices about 5 cents lower than that same city. So we've really seen prices come down.

I noticed last Friday that reg. gas was $2.69/gal. I don't use diesel so don't know what it's running.

garyk52 11-04-2014 10:15 AM

Lowest I've seen in my neck of the woods is (NorthEast Pa) is $3.05.9 Looks like we're still getting ripped.

RCREYES 11-04-2014 12:27 PM

$2.54 REG, $2.67 MID, $2.69 PREM, $3.29 DIESEL out here in the West Texas town of El Paso. Gas Buddy app is my friend! :D

JackandJanet 11-04-2014 04:00 PM

Yikes! Regular gas is still $3.17 here in Pine. $3.19 in Payson. It was $2.89 at Costco in Tucson a week ago.

Gas prices

We get our gasoline at the Indian reservation. It is tax free. Paid 3.29 this week. We are always higher than the national average. Our congressman told us it is because we are at the end of the pipeline. Gas prices are lower in an election year. I heard one report that they will remain low until spring time. Figures, just in time for the travel season!!

Luckydog671 11-12-2014 09:36 AM

Gas in our area continues to fall. Filled up with unleaded for $2.89/ gal. yesterday. How low can it go!?!

That's just a pure coincidence I'm sure. :D

misfit429 11-12-2014 11:29 AM

Way down south here on the Texas Gulf Coast it is @ $2,55 a gallon. In the town where i live it is all chemical refineries and we make it here. Unfortunately now it all goes in the pipeline where it is pumped to Houston, then has to be trucked back to Texas City so we pay more than Houston. In the 70's, Amoco had a station here on the outskirts of the plant where you could buy it directly from the plant. Then BP took over and it all went into the pipeline.

renoites 11-12-2014 03:49 PM

I have to pay west coast prices.
Lowest seen is $3.35/gas, and $3.69 for diesel.
But that is nice since it is not uncommon for it to be above $4. And if I drive to San Fran is closer to $4.50.

In May, on our long trip, I paid $3.18, in the unlikely place of Lake of the Ozarks. Tourist towns usually are more expensive.

We are heading to Florida again this Feb and hope the prices will hold out. But now I have a diesel and its price is not as low. But, hopefully, the mileage will be better.

misfit429 11-12-2014 05:26 PM

I have a '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a straight 6 in it that gets the horrible mileage of 15 MPG all the time according to the onboard computer mileage meter. Believe it or not, when I pulled the Hi Lo the first time in October, my mileage only dropped a few 10ths of a MPG while pulling the trailer. I have wondered ever since if that thing is defective. LOL

Wrascal 11-12-2014 07:01 PM

Todays refueling - $2.67/gal, 87 octane.

Luckydog671 11-17-2014 08:37 PM

A new low in our area. Filled up the Tahoe with unleaded for $2.77/gallon. Loving it! :D

Gas prices

Monday we filled up our tank V8 truck for 3.00 and 9/10. This is indian gas with no tax. Regullar stations are about 3.25. The price seems to fall weekly. Our congressman was looking into to our high price some months ago. The answer was we are at the end of the pipeline way up north.

Where in FL are you headed? We will be in the KEYS all of Jan. till about Feb 6

notanlines 11-19-2014 06:32 AM

Jim, where in the area of the Keys do you find a reasonably priced RV site to stay? We have stayed on Big Pine Key for a few nights the last few years, but they are inching towards $100 per night. We've had to back pedal up to Okeechobee for our three months.

ReadyToRoll 11-19-2014 06:58 AM

We stayed at Long Key State Park last December. Beautiful, private sites all right on the water. Super clean bathrooms. I think we paid around $35/night water and electric.

notanlines 11-19-2014 07:54 AM

We stayed a couple nights at Long Key a few years ago, but they are pretty hard to get, as a matter fact they are SOLD OUT! Imagine an RV park that is sold out in the area of the Keys.

JIM L 11-19-2014 08:30 AM

We don't take the HiLo to the Keys. We rent a 4 bedroom house for at least 1 month and keep it full with family and friends. Always on a canal or the bay and we take a boat for fishing. This is our 9th year of going down and 5 of those years we stayed 2 months and other family members stayed for 3 months. When you rent for 1 to 3 mos you can get a real deal. This year we have a beautiful house and it runs $40.00 per night per bedroom. It sure beats the 16 degrees here this morning. We have always stayed on Key Largo.

If you have access to military facilities, I believe there are a couple of military RV parks in the Keys. Not sure about prices or availability though.

I paid 2.499 at Costco last week. Better enjoy while we can. As soon as OPEC runs the U S Oil producers out of business, prices will increase, if not sooner.:(

Very true, at some point it will be cost prohibitive to keep producing oil in the US and Canada. Once facilities are shut down, the price of crude needs to go way up before it makes business sense to invest the money required to re-start.

Wrascal 12-23-2014 06:11 PM

Keep in mind that these lessons work both ways, IE: when these oil producers start over-pricing their product - there are alternatives. In the future they'll better walk a fine line.

I didn't need any but yesterday I saw a station at $2.09.

notanlines 12-24-2014 05:06 AM

In the Memphis area we have $1.99 to $1.89 all over the southern half of the city, and even the "upper crust" stations are in the $2.05 range. $2.69 diesel prices put a smile on my face until DW told me what our energy stocks had done in the last 12 weeks.

Luckydog671 01-29-2015 09:02 AM

The plunge continues: $2.11 at our local Tehachapi Fastrip station.

I'll continue to enjoy it while I can as California instituted a new tax on gasoline this month which widens the price gap between us and the rest of the country. It's going to be brutal when prices go back up!

JackandJanet 01-29-2015 11:46 AM

It was $1.759 at Costco in Tucson this week! Wish I had a 10,000 gal tank at home that I could fill up at today's prices.

I wish you could too jack, because once you filled that tank it would go to a buck a gallon for the rest of us.:D

renoites 01-29-2015 09:09 PM

I took my Toyota to my grandson last week. I paid $1.64 just a block off of I-80 In Nebraska.
Only one fill up over $1.89/per gallon in the 1600 mile journey.

I have recently change to diesel, and it doesn't get discounted nearly as much as un-leaded. But did fill up diesel at $2.85/pg.
