Default Happy Thanksgiving

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving with family and friends. Try not to eat too much. The average meal is in the neighborhood of 4000 calories and 229 grams of fat. Then the worst part is the picking at food a few hrs. later.

Sam,
Didn't you know that Thanksgiving food is just like camping food, no fat or calories. It's magic.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

For Sam's benefit I'll tell you our menu for Thanksgiving: Carrot and celery sticks, bean sprouts, steamed broccoli plain, baked tofu bites, followed by sugar-free Jell-O for dessert. Naw, I'm just having a little fun at her expense! I plan on doing my share towards the 4000 calorie estimate! Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I would be embarrassed to eat less than a 4,000 calorie meal on Thanksgiving! Have to make sure my meds are working! Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I am sure I am in calorie intake of less than 4,000 calories on Thanksgiving. I ate carrots and cabbage.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Notanlines,You stole my menu!! Yes, I ate healthy. Natural turkey breast, butternut squash and sweet potatoe. No added salt or butter. I,m sure this didn't add up to any where near the 4000 calories. Just thought I would post as the forum has been quiet lately. Winter blahs.

Sam, like you, our days of the 4K dinners are about over. We do splurge on occasion, but mostly it is shared menu items and the like. However I did pick up a 17lb fresh turkey from Kroger yesterday for 45 cents /pound. We ate with friends on turkey day so no leftovers. This way I will cut the breast out and deliver it ready for the freezer to my neighbor and smoke the remains. They are white meat people and we find it just a little dry after the first day. But your suggestion of butternut squash has put me back on the road to Kroger.

Default Happy thanksgiving.

I didn't want to go in any stores on Black Friday. I think our local food stores donate any left over turkeys to our local food bank and soup kitchens. I agree white meat can be a little dry. I dipped mine in apple sauce. I've been taking a series on healthy eating and have lost 31lbs. I love lots of vegetables and salads. The change was not hard for me to do.

Default Happy thanksgiving.

We purchased a 1/2 bushel of butternut squash from our local farmer. It keeps well for about 5months in a cool dry place. I cook up a roaster pan full and then freeze some. Sweet potatoes are a much better alternative than white potatoes. Do a search on the net for healthy recipes.

Sam, congrats on your weight loss!

My wife makes a butternut squash soup that's pretty good on those cold winter days. Pretty healthy but the recipe calls for sour cream, however, you can substitute plain yogurt. Spices it up with a little cayenne pepper. Yummy!

Wish I could say we did as well as all of you did. It was my turn to host Thanksgiving dinner, and, of course, you give the family of ten what they want and expect since it is only for one day. Then you send all the food home with them so that dear husband and I will not eat it on another day. Also, the Clemson vs. South Carolina game was on Saturday right after Thanksgiving, and you can't have a Clemson party without a table full of snacks in the table. So, everybody went home with turkey, baked ham, cornbread dressing, giblet gravy, fresh string beans, squash casserole, four-bean salad, curried beef with rice, sweet potato casserole, carrot cake, pecan pie, key lime pie, New York cheese cake with cherries, etc. Now, dear husband and I cooked the main menu, and the other family members (ranging in age from 2 years old to 73 years old) brought the desserts.
