Help me decide
I have some ceiling damage and I'm not going to take the entire ceiling out. Decided to cover it with styrofoam ceiling tiles. Got my selection narrowed to 4 choices. I'm putting it to a vote to help me decide. Please give me your opinion!

ceiling tile
I vote for #1.
|
I'm gonna need more votes to decide this folks. We have a tie right now. Join in and have some fun!. Your opinion matters and won't cause any harm. I will install whichever gets the most votes and of course post pics after the install. Only 3 days left!

I like choice #3 myself
|
Mix it up with 1 and 2.
|
I like 3 myself but may be a bit radical. All the others have pics of a completed ceiling. But number 3 doesn't. Not quite sure what the overall look would be.
|
RC I'm not quite sure how that would work but if you share your design idea I will consider it. Just not quite sure how to pattern that out.
|
I like #3. Are you sure it can be attached securely to the existing ceiling without difficulty? I'm visualizing you arriving at a destination and finding half the tiles on the trailer floor.

No opinion but . . .
Sorry, no opinion but whatever you decide, buy extra. If you need to replace any later on, they may not be available in your desired pattern.
Please post a photo when complete! |
It apparently glues up with ceramic tile mastic. I've laid some ceramic tile and I'm here to tell ya that when that stuff sets it is stuck. They are just styrofoam so they are extremely light and they go together with a tongue and groove on the edges so their weight is distributed among the surrounding tiles. Only thing i may have to do is take a belt sander and sand the ceiling with some 80 grit to make it rough so the glue will stick to the ceiling better. But I may be completely wrong. I may end up with a floor full of tile after the first trip out. I will keep everyone here posted with the results.

If you are using a water based mastic you may be OK, but most everything else will dissolve Styrofoam. We use foam for model railroad base and have to use latex calk and other water based materials for glues.

Another thought after look at the ceiling of my camper, not sure how thick the tiles are but I noticed the overhead cabinet hinges are very close to the ceiling (at least on my model). You could run into an issue opening cabinets doors. I'm sure you could make it work, just something to consider.

They say to use "Acryl Pro" ceramic floor adhesive and they are very thin measuring 3/16" thick.

Help me decide. Only one day left and No.3 has the lead!

Looks great.

I voted for the one you used. Looks absolutely brilliant! Beautiful work!

excellent work. I like the pattern and texture.
Breaks up the monotony of the plain ceiling. Noticed it wasn't cheap also. How many sq ft did you need? |
