Pet friendly
 

Hello Gang.
We are planning a trip this year, and by planning I mean hooking up the camper and hitting the road. No hurry, no "have to do's" and no set times. We have many friends all over the country and could travel all summer if we want.
We have 2 Samoyeds that will go too, they are a part of the family, and it will just be my wife and I, both old fogeys, and the two fur kids.

I was just like to hear about the very pet friendly campsites you have encountered. Would also like to hear about places to avoid if that is allowed.

We will probably only make this one trip and want it to be the best. :)

Welcome to the forum. Best bet is to look at the website or call the campground. I've never encountered anywhere that my pet wasn't allowed. All they asked is that you clean up after them.

You can even take them into National Park campgrounds, but they have to be on a leash when outside and have to be "accompanied". They are NOT allowed on trails in National Parks.

I had a health set back so trip planning was put of until later in the year and I have decided to do some work to the trailer before we go.

Charlie, sorry about the health problems. We all hope things turn out well. Ruben and Jack are on the money. We are still returning from our Alaska trip (12,000 + miles so far) and not one time did we encounter and problems with our dog being welcome. It would be my opinion that you put that worry on the very bottom of your list. Also load up the Woodall's, Good Sam's, and TripAdvisor apps on your phone or laptop. Generally any info you need is located here. I'll also bet that the other members here will have even better sites and apps to go with the ones I mentioned. By the way, what direction are you and the "kids" headed?

When we can get away this year it will probably be a trip to a friends in North Carolina with a stop at a KOA in Wytheville Virginia where a friend from Christiansburg will come to visit us.

Next year we hope to do a great round trip heading for Heber Valley in Utah where I have a friend that works for the Heber Valley Railroad, and from there to Phoenix to visit my SIL, then to Oklahoma, and Texas to see more friends that own Samoyed's, to Georgia for more dog folks, stop at NC for another group of Sammie folks, and then home. On the way west we have dog friends in Wisconsin and Illinois to visit too.

Pretty ambious I know, but for retired folks it is do-able. Less distance than Alaska, which I would love to try but the boss says no, no, no. :D

We just returned home after touring the western states for 8K miles plus trip with 2 mini-dachshunds.
Traveling with animals is not a big deal. We NEVER had an issue at any Nat'l, state or private park.
Leashed, and controlled is the key to yours and other campers happiness. Pay especial attention to cleaning up after ALL of your pets potty breaks.

Charlie, we're at a site in Wisconsin right now, headed to Indiana probably tomorrow. Also just retired, and did Alaska just at a leisurely pace, 2-300 a day and a few rest stops in between.
Maybe if Brenda and I cooked and cleaned for the two of you there would be room for us on your big trip? Our dachshund gets along with everybody.....
