Default 1971 Hi/Lo won't go down

I have a 1971 Hi/Lo and the solenoid to lower the top will not operate. I have checked the voltage to the solenoid and it checks out fine. I am unable to find a manual release mechanism to manually release the fluid. There is, however, a small plug with a hex head located on the housing next to the solenoid but I do not want to take this out until I know it wil not spurt out the fluid. Is there a source for a replacement solenoid?

Try a local parts house, make sure to go in during the day so you can talk with somebody that knows something, the 2nd shift guys get $9 an hour and most times aren't very helpful

The solenoid on my unit is a Ford style solenoid. Any auto parts store should carry them. Did you try jumpering your solenoid to get the top down?
