1987 Funchaser Lowering Issue Bulge In Floor

Newbie HiLo-er here. Took our 1987 Funchaser 22ft on its maiden voyage this week. It all went well except I noticed when I set up camp, after leveling and raising the roof, that there was a noticeable bulge in the floor, right about in line with the sink. I knew this was not good, but since everything was working properly and we were having a good time I chose to worry about it later. Don't know if it is realeted (but I suspect it is) or not, but all went well until we went to leave - the release cable would not move - at all. I have raised and lowered this thing at least a dozen times in the driveway at home with no issues, but now, 500 miles from home, it chooses to stop working....I re-leveled the trailer with the jacks and somehow was able to get the lock to release, allowing me to lower the roof. Now that I'm home, I notice the cable will still not release. I have not raised the roof up yet, as I was going to crawl underneath and take a look...just got back last night.

Anybody have any thoughts or ideas on what the issue(s) may be?

Is it possible that your corner stabilizer jacks were so tight that they were changing the camber of the frame enough to bind the cable? If so, be sure to only raise or lower the top without any pressure on the stabilizer jacks. Be sure to only level the trailer side to side by using blocks under the tires and front to back using the front tongue jack.

ReadyToRoll asks a valid question. The other question to ask is: "Did you try raising the top to take weight off the safety bar before you tried pulling the release?" It is common and normal for the top to "creep down" and bind against the bar if you have the top elevated for any length of time.

The bar has no function when the top is lowered, so you shouldn't need to pull the safety release before raising the top.

I don't know what the "bulge" would be, but it could be related to your problem.

The bulge in the floor by your kitchen sink could be caused by the hydralic ram. Inspect the mounting points and condition of the metal framing around the the ram. If the ram came lose or partically disconnected it would make a bulge in the floor, then having a bind in the lifting system it be difficult to lower the top.
