1994 lowering solenoid issue fixed

Yesterday my 1994 tow-lite would not lower so our camping trip ruined. I worked for hours trying to figure it out.
Today I tried to use the manual lever I read about to make the top come down if all else fails. That did not work so I took the plate off of the lever unit at the motor. I could see that the lever was attached to a screw that would hit the solenoid barely and it would not make the top of camper come down. I used two wrenches and tightened the screw which allows more movement of the pump rod and that worked.

Power hooked back up and we pulled the stop cord and used the lowering switch and yeah me!!
There was nothing wrong with the switch or the solenoid or breaker. It was only that that screw at the manual lever mist have backed out just enough to not allow the release of pressure.

Jeannie, that's a super job of troubleshooting you did. Congratulations on your figuring things out and getting everything to work! Yes, the lowering function of the Up/Down switch simply opens the pressure release valve which lets the top come down. I can see that if the electrical device (which DOES look like a solenoid) that opens the valve is not adjusted to it properly, it would not open.

My trailer's manual release valve is a bit different - no lever, I have a "knob" that is turned. I'll have to see if I can open it up kinda like you did to see how it works in my trailer. So far, I've had no trouble raising or lowering the top, so I've never looked into it.

Congrats!!

Feels good to solve a problem and it costs nothing. Just a little time. Thanks for the pictures you posted. I am sure it will help some one trouble shoot.

I've "stuck" this thread at the top of this section, because I think it may be a problem that others will have and I've never seen this "fix" before. It seems a likely issue for others with this kind of lowering valve.

Thank you Jack, I’m hoping this helps someone else also.

Thanks for the post, Jeannie!

I too have a HiLo that won't Lo.

Plan is to lube all the cables and pulleys anyhow and I've added your fix to the list of things to look at.

This did the trick for my 1993 FunLite that would not lower!

Thank you for this post. After 2 weeks of troubleshooting why my 1993 FunLite would not lower I came across this post and it is good to go! The down switch never worked and I had to lower manually since I owned it and now the switch even works. Thanks again for sharing.

I’m glad it was helpful!

Thank you for this, I wasn’t sure how to manually release the top to lower. I am going to add this to my trouble shoot.

Great! I hope it helps.
