Finding somewhere to replace a 2005 hi-lo cable

Posting this desperately

Recently one of our cables on our 2005 tow-lite snapped. We have no idea where to go or turn to. We have read the famous PDF file in this group for help, but the problem is we are trying to find the actual cable that comes with the bolt end. Ive seen places like Amazon sells just the cable, but don't we need to find one with the correct ends? I did see a cable for a Coleman that seems like it would work, but I mostly see everybody posting about J&R. I did see someone post and say that they could not get ahold of J&R. Is there any other way, or place in 2023 that still sells the cable needed to replace this?

I would appreciate anything, GREATLY

Located near Sacramento.

Buy the cable you see online and swag it to an eye bolt, which you can find at any hardware store. I think many members have approached this repair this way. Use stainless steel cable, I think in 3/16" diameter.

So with the eye bolt, you just crimp it the same way you do the other end?

Basically, yes - the end that attaches to the top has a "thimble" swagged onto it. I don't think you really need the thimble at the bolt end, but it could be used there too. Here's a link to an Amazon source for wire rope thimbles: https://www.amazon.com/Wire-Rope-Thi...node=979138011 You can also find swagging tools and crimping sleeves on Amazon too.

By the way, even if you bought the cable with the bolt end from J&R, you'd have to swag the thimble end yourself, because they don't sell cables already cut to the proper length. Cable length is somewhat unique to each trailer.

Might want to check with boat shops, particularly ones that work on sailboat rigging. I'm in the Sacramento area as well, but it's been years since I owned a sailboat, so I'm no longer up on who's doing that work in this area. With all the boats in town & in the delta, there's got to be a least one rigging shop somewhere nearby.

I you can find a shop and take in the broken cable, they should be able to duplicate it for you.

JandR can sell you cables made to size. They have a book with measurements from 1957 up to 1996.... after that, you provide them the length and they will make it to size. It costs just $20 more per cable, but they can do it. If you want to order 1 cable or a set of 4 cables, GO TO EBAY : type in the following : HI LO TRAILER PARTS - CABLES
then you can order there.
