large pop
HI ALL,
This is my first post on here. This is my third Hi-Lo and my first problem. I think I've broke a cable. I have a 2003 m29c and when I went to lift it for the first time after buying it I heard a pop and now the front will not lift but the back will. I can see a loose cable through the window on the curb side. I haven't pulled it out but it has a lot of slack in it. The other side is still tight. Do I have a broke cable? Is it worth fixing? One camper place told me I could spend 2,000 and still not be able to fix it. I haven't called camping world yet to see what they say. The closest one to me is in Chattanooga Tn. and they dont have a good reputation. Is the cables and pulleys still available? Thanks for you help. |
Certainly sounds like a broken cable, and, yes, you can fix it yourself. It won't cost much (but I haven't priced cables, so I don't know what they cost). It's not a particularly hard job, according to other members who have done it.
You can get preformed cables from J&R, or, you can buy a cable at a store like Home Depot and make your own. There are threads in this forum on cable replacement. Use the search function. This might get you started: https://www.hilotrailerforum.com/f61/...1998-24td-125/ - Jack |
In addition to J&R you can get parts here: Home - Midget RV & Trailer Service. Both places are familiar with Hi-Lo trailers and should be able to provide advise over the phone.
While the system is simple, I would not expect the techs at Camping World to be familiar with it. They probably would be learning as they go, on your nickel. |
thanks for the info. who is J&R by the way.

Clay, first and foremost, yes it is well worth fixing. The dude who told you two thousand was bogus as a football bat. Simply take a little time to read the library here and get to it. And don't expect a lot of help from J&R. They probably won't answer the phone.

Thanks fellows
I got a hold of midget and ordered a new cable and pulley (both broke) I have to say thats the MOST helpful parts/service place I've ever talk to. |
Broken cable
Ditto what others have said. The tech. at camping world is full of ******. Your trailer is certainly worth repairing and can be done by you. The post you were refered to is 15 pages and is very detailed and an excellent guide to cable replacement. Lube your other cable as per the maintenance video on this web site. Keep us posted.

I forgot to mention that Joel from midget rv will be coming by my house next month and offered to stop by and do a service call. Now thats customer service. I would definitely recomend him. My cable broke in the wall and the pulley that broke is on top of another pulley next to the hydraulic lift cylinder. Just out of Curiosity how do you tread the cable through the wall and get that pulley on top of the other pulley?
|
Well Joel and Tom from midget rv came today and 4 cables and 6 or 8 pulleys later it's fixed. :D

The Housecall Lives!
I think that is an awesome story and I wish I was close enough that they could just drop by my place for needed repairs!

What really makes it awesome is they came from ohio and I'm in Ga. They're really good Christian folks who go the extra mile to help people.
