top creeping down

Im so grateful for everyones help so far. After buying a 88 funchaser nearly a month ago. I have repaired a broken bully mount, put on new cables, replaced the guide rod, and re attached the head to the hydraulic cylinder. So now I got the thing going up and down just fine, but noticed an hour or so after getting it put back together that the top is slowly creeping back down. Obviously the safety bar is not engaging (something I can fix), but why the cylinder isn't holding in the up position is something I was hoping to get some input on. I haven't noticed any fluid leaking, but I still need to investigate further. Any one had this issue before?

Perhaps your safety bar is "stuck"? (In the release position?)

When you pull on the release cable, does it feel like it's moving anything? Do you hear the safety bar engage when the top is raised? (It makes a "clink" sound when it slips into position.)

I THINK you can see it underneath the trailer. Have someone pull on the lanyard while you're looking for movement (of any kind).

It's normal for the top to settle down on the bar after it has been up a while. As long as you don't see a hydraulic leak, you should be fine.

I would say just feel lucky that those 25 year old seals work and don't leak.
Fix the safety bar issue and call it good. Plus you had to replace the guide rod, so things were not optimal.
Once it is on the safety bar there will be no creep. With no load, it will not go continue downward

Just my opinion

Check out this procedure attached in this link. It can help in cleaning possible debris from the lowering valve that might be letting the top creep down.

I've added this procedure to my scheduled maintenance routine and haven't had a problem since. I first noticed an issue when I couldn't get the tipout to come in. Tried the half creep procedure and it worked like a champ. The top had settled just enough on the tipout to prevent it from retracting.
