78 hi lo...help !
 

anyone out there grease the side rails on their hi lo ? the rails the trailer rides up & down on, should i use spray on lithium grease or the hydrolic grease i used on cables and guide rod???

The water system is pressurized when you hook-up to city water with a water hose. Make sure you use a pressure regulator to prevent a waterline burst inside the trailer. Is this portion of the water system working for you?

The freshwater system (tank and pump) is used when not hooked up to water with a hose. Fill fresh water tank, (after you get the system working, you need to sanitize it with bleach and flush it out with fresh water including the water heater-there is drain on the lower front of the waterheater).Turn on the 3-way switch to 12v or plug the trailer into 110v. There is a switch for the pump (Mine is located above the refrigerator next to the countertop). The pump automaticitly pressurize the water system using water from the freshwater tank. If the pump doesn't turn on, check if you have 12v to the pump. Check the fuse (my fuse box is under the couch).

The furnace also needs 12v from the battery or 12v thru the converter when pluged into 110v. Check the fuse and check voltage at the furnace. Turn propane (I always light my stove to make sure there is no air in the line). Turn on thermostat, the fan will come on next , the spark ignitor will start and the flame sensor will turn on gas valve.

The tail lights being dim, I sounds like the light bulb sockets aren't clean or you don't have a good ground.

I found with alot of electrical problems I had was caused by not having a good ground.

On this forum you should be able to get a owner's manual, if not for your year, maybe something close.

I also have a 1978 HiLo. I do have a manual that the previous owner ordered from the factory. It's only a photocopy, but in it has a chart with model numbers for that year with other info. I don't have a scanner, but I did recreate that chart on a Microsoft Word Doc for you. It wouldn't allow me to post it on here because it said it was too big. I haven't been able to figure out what my model is either, only that it must be one on the list. :confused:

Anyway, if you (or anyone else) is interested in this chart, send me a private message with your email addy. Maybe eventually, I can post the entire manual, but the rest of it looks very similar to the much newer model manual posted on this site.

We were having trouble with dim tail lights also, so we upgraded the light bulb to a LED light. See the following link to another section in this forum.

We love the results. Made a huge difference.

Regarding lubricating the slides: I use silicon spray. Spray it on a cloth and rub the slides, then spray up in the guides. Works for me!

I Guess you aren't certified as a camper until you learn to fix STUFF. Good luck with your future fixes.

I haven't seen very much information in the forum regarding this subject, so I thought I would let you know what I was told to do.
After we bought our unit, I visited JR Enterprises to learn what I could about maintaining our HI-LO. We don't live to far from them, so it wasn't difficult to do and having worked as a pleasure boat service manager for almost 30 years, I had some knowledge of what questions to ask. I was lucky enough to meet and talk to Greg Stanley, now deceased, who was able to give me many good suggestions on what to look for and how to maintain our unit.
As for the slides, he suggested using paraffin wax on the guides 3 or 4 times per season. This is the wax used for canning. It is inexpensive and easy to apply with no over spray to mess with. I have used it now for 4 years with no problems. Hope this helps you out.:)

Where did you find this wax? Just from the canning section of the grocery store?

We probably have some stashed away here at the house somewhere...

You answered your own question, the canning section of the store. Or, steal it from a jar of homemade jelly.
