Me and the spare!

OK, I'm sure it's just my luck. A while back I discovered a oddity with my spare tire (Who'd a thunk!). Since then I've been very particular about the spare. I check it's pressure, inspect it, Armor-All it, keep the rim as clean as I can, etc.
In preparation for our trip to Wakewa Springs SP next week, I pulled the cover off the spare and WA-LA, a bird nest!
1st pic is the nest, 2nd is the cover, the nest was between the cover and the rim. 3rd pic is my fix, a piece of plexi cut to fit the rim from the back, sliced to fit the bracket and held in place with a rare earth magnet.
Hate to ask "What's next?"

That's a hoot, Tree! What kind of bird was it? Do you know? Sure beats my mouse problem I had a couple years ago by a country mile. I suspect your fix will prevent further "home making".

Love your pun, "a hoot". I'm pretty sure it's was a gackle. Pretty common around here. Smart though, nothing would be able get to the nest. No cat, coon or opossum.
The fix was simple, a piece of spare plexi-glass cut to fit the rim, put on, then the spare. Can't go anywhere, the rim holds it in place and a rare earth magnet keeps it from rattling

Bet those birds didn't know they were in for a road trip! I have a covered patio with ceiling fans, and birds like to roost on the fan blades. I turn the fans on and it takes a couple of revolutions before the birds vacate the premise.:)
