Cleaning the vinyl strip covering the endcap to body joint

Thanks to Covid, we haven't taken the 2307 anywhere for 18 months - despite bringing it home for cleaning and maintenance a couple of times, the exterior got really, really dirty.

With an extended trip coming up (meeting our daughter & her family in Yellowstone, then on to Mt Rushmore) it was time for a thorough cleaning, including polishing and waxing the outer skin & molded endcaps. During that project, discovered that what first appeared to be mostly dirt on the vinyl sealing strip that covers the joint between the endcaps and the roof and body of the trailer was actually surface discoloration - probably UV damage.

After working through several cleaning products, finally hit on a means of bringing those strips back to a nearly new appearance: scrubbing with "Soft Scrub" cleanser (original formula with bleach) & a Scotchbrite pad, followed by a wipe-down with Vinylex vinyl protectant. The combination of the mild cleanser and Scotchbrite cleans away the "dead" top surface of the vinyl strip, the beach in the cleanser removes residual discoloration, and the Vinylex helps protect tha surface from further damage.

A couple of minor cautions - keep the Scotchbrite off the fiberglass endcaps (the combination of the cleanser and pad can put fine scratches in the 'glass) and rise off the cleanser residue as you go.

Attached photo is of one of the vinyl strips half-way through the cleaning process - before starting, the strip was the same brown color almost to the bottom...

Nice clean up job.

When we cleaned up our HiLo this year i used a blue non scratch scotchbrite sponge. I also used Magic sponges. Took us three days to was and wax. The third day was detailing the awning. DH is 75 years old. I am younger with a host of back and neck problems. Thank good ness for pain pills. Wondering if we can do this again next year? Glad your RV cleaned up for you.

Our 2307C had spent several years outside (with good maintenance, but outside full time is still hard on the finishes) and the molded fiberglass endcaps in particular were pretty oxidized and dull. Hand polishing just wasn't getting the shine back, so I bit the bullet and bought a fiberglass restoration kit that included a Porter-Cable orbital buffer from the folks at Marine 31 - not cheap, but at 74, it's well worth it to cut down on the hand labor..
