cracked ac cover

Any suggestions on what to fix the crack on the ac cover. I tried caulk and it doesn't work. It is cracked near and around the screw hole.

Donna, I'm a new guy here, but I tend to be a "fix-it" person. It would help if you could post a picture of the problem area, because I can't quite "imagine" the problem you are facing.

Possibly, the crack could be repaired with a fiberglass patch, or, silicone caulk, but it would sure help to see what you're dealing with.

Cracked ac cover

You can drill a whole at the end of the crack to stop the crack from running. Then put oversized washers then reinstall the nut's. This will work if the crack is not to big.

mine was cracked from front screw to the top,i got a fiberglass kit with mat which i used on inside and outside i also put a steel washer over the screw hole on the outside then put the mat over it.so far it is still holding good.

The some cracks start at the screw hole and extend out 3 inches. Another is cracked from hole down so when the screw is in it pulls apart. Hope that helps my dilemia. I don't have a guy around so need help repairing! Thanks for the responses.

Would it be easier to drill new holes and patch the cracked areas?

Replacement covers are available depending on the make and model of the A/C.

I used a two part expoxy ( J B Weld ) and some plastic pieces off a office binder (for backing). I took the cover off and did the repair on the inside. It did work for about three years , when more cracks showed up ( because of the age of the top, the UV rays broke down the plastic) I replaced it for about $100.
