HELP!!! my 1984 doesnt have an awning!!!
 

hi folks! new to forum! i have a 1984 22ftTL and i just got a pretty as a peach trailer off a wonderful gentle family here in Denver Metro Area, Problem is, its immaculate outside! however missing ONE thing.... An awning!!! any clue where to look, which kinds, Cost efficient ones! i am not trying to break the bank but i am looking for something classy and clean looking for my TL...
HELP!!! where oh where shall i look?!?!? thanks!!

the first place that i would check is an RV dealer . like kettelsons in Denver area.

I would check with a dealer also. You will have to keep in mind that an awning for a Hi-lo is not the standard dimensions of other awnings and the bottom mount has to go onto a special bracket made for Hi-lo. Is SLC there is an online free ad like craigs list that people advertise all sorts of RV accessories. I have seen an enclosed 15' Horizon awning like mine for $250.
I have several friends that live in Castle Rock. They love it - It seems like a great town.

thanks fellas! would any of you say that the Flamma or the Horizon awnings are a good deal!? so i dont have to deal with the lower arms for the awning? and should i just check with an awning dealer locally and see what they suggest?!? im afraid of it weighing too much on the side of the trailer.. and $$$$$$...


Castle Rock is a little piece of heaven!!! i LOVE it here, im from So Cal originally.. you couldnt give me 40 acres to move back to ca! i LOVE it here! couldnt jackhammer the smile off my face on how happy i am here in Colorado!

ould someone that has a22ft TowLite post a picture of their awning in the closed position and a picture opened up. Maybe a visual picture would help.

I am not sure how big my awning is. the trailer is a 1995 215T

rolff is that a horizon awning? and do you need special brackets below for it to mount to the bottom of the top cap??? let me know! and what do those run these days???

Yes it's a Horizon and it has brackets at the bottom. I saw One on Towliters pictures and the bracket was mounted on the bottom half. I would recommend that over where mine are. I love that it is covered. No issue with wind damage. I have replaced the original screws, which pulled out, and put bolts thru it into wood blocks on the inside.

Here is a picture of our awning decorated for Halloween.

If we put the awning out all the way, we put the feet on the ground. If we only extend the awning out 1/2 way, then we place the feet in the brackets attached to the top.

FWIW I'm in the Denver area too and if you're camping in Colorado consider the wind! Our '86 came with an awning and broke already (plastic was weak I'm sure) just as I was going out to retract it as the wind picked up. Honestly; haven't used it since.

We retrofit a Horizon awning on our '69 Bon Voyage. Do-it-yourself easy install. Following the installation instructions, I put the lower brackets on the lower edge of the upper half and they've worked just fine, although putting them on the bottom of the lower half is an intriguing idea.

I particularly like the storage box housing design... maximum protection against UV and almost all potential road damage.

We used the braces/legs just as Les does, although I seldom ran it out all the way.

BIG NOTE underlining what Moose wrote. Although very easy to install and VERY easy to use, I don't feel they are as stout as the factory installed awnings that came on Hi-Lo's. Its a good thing ours was easy to deploy and retract, because I found myself doing it a lot... would never ever consider leaving it up all night or when leaving the trailer for a day. Always kept the wrench on it so I could pull that thing in FAST if a breeze started quickening.

It ran around $1200 (with shipping) when I bought it 7 years ago. Probably made in China and cost less these days. :cool:

thanks folks!! i went to CW and looked at one in 4 meters on a popup trailer and i think the bag kind will be what i look after! i found one around 400 bucks and the awning rail that it would slide into would be 35 for that as well.. but that will be next year!!!! i think a ez up will be in order for now.... sigh.. and yes your right the wind here would be rough SO.... i have to keep a budget!

Mine has the fiamma (branded horizon) cartridge type awning, it cranks out with little effort when new, more effort after the winds throw awning up over top of the RV a couple times, lol.

I think MOST awnings are at risk with windy conditions, I dunno, so dont think I know which is better, yet. Even though mine has legs for both ends of it that attach to camper bracket (not anything special nor like the ones posted above) or the legs can be staked into ground. I like mine just OK, but older models (mine) had many plastic parts that I have replaced with newer aluminium pieces from Fiamma. I bought a telescoping pole to hook to middle of anwing to tie to ground for this next season, help hold things down. 2 of 4 trips wind came up quickly while we were out boating, not fun, staking legs to ground worked better than when hooked into brackets on camper. These are stock brackets for side legs (or supports I guess they are called) and are bolted to the bottom edge of bottom of my camper... yes I can raise and lower camper to help me get awning up, with out much issue, you just losen BOTH side support's bolt that lets them telescope, and pay attention as you go up or down.

My dad's coach, has the fully electric fiama cartridge, BUT has no legs/supports on each end to even use, but it is a nicer stock setup --> it retracts itself if wind is above 28mph has a wind sensor & remote control opener, even if you are gone. Not sure how much more that costs, but seems worth it to me, from my experience...

we live in KS wind always blows, unless I am at work, lol.
