New butyl tape for windows

2 Attachment(s)
I just reinstalled a window, and I'm not sure if I should have put the butyl tape on the window or side of the camper (that's what I did)but it's sticking out pretty far from the widow edge. Should I redo it by putting it on the window edge instead? The butyl tape is 1" wide. If it's fine as is, can I trim some of the excess?

hoping the pictures attach.

I did it the same way except I added a bead of caulk to the inside of the window frame. But that works. Once you trim it many use lexel caulk to finish the outside seal.

I was thinking of getting that kit on amazon to install my new roof vent and air flow cover. it comes with the screws and all too. I could just go to the hardware store tho and get it. I'm gonna use the washered self tappers anyways. I told you all like a fool when I did the ceiling I went and covered the crank up vent with the carpet panel. LOL not even thinking. It was leaking a little bit tho anyways but still that was dumb huh? :) more I paint on that roof coating i'm thinking spray on flex seal. that butyl tape is always handy to have for stuff.

For trimming off the butyl tape, I use a sharpened hard PLASTIC scraper about 1" wide. Cut down the seal side then carefully scrape down the edge to remove the excess tape. Once complete and clean, run a thin bead of white Lexel caulk for a finished appearance. The squished out tape shows a good seal.
The first photo appears to show a crack below the window seal. Suggest you stop drill the crack soon and seal with the Lexel caulk. To stop drill, I use a 1/8" drill bit at the very end of the crack. This prevents the crack from running. Good job!

There is a crack :/ happened with the window out when trying to remove the fridge vent. It goes from the window to the vent opening, so can't get any bigger. It's bondo'd on the inside (had the whole wall gutted). I'll put the caulk on the outside when I do the window. Thank you!!

Window resealing with butyl tape

We were given instructions by our HiLo dealer. Our butyl tape was put on the rounded part of the window. Some areas required two rows. Then the window was put back in place. Waited a few days and then removed excess butyl with a butter knife. Then Lexel caulk was applied on the exterior window. Utube has a video on how to do this. It gave us a very neat tidy job.
