Rear Outside Storage

I am thinking about rear outside storage for my 2307C as a way of being able to carry more stuff while only minimally affecting the tongue weight. Currently have the spare tire mount bolted on the square drain hose tube. Am considering mounting a receiver hitch to the tube. Any idea how much weight can be bolted to that square tube? Any suggestions for alternate approaches?

Don't depend upon using the square tube carrying any significant amount of weight. They were not built for such purposes. You would do much better to attach to the frame. Keep in mind, also, that trailer frames were not designed to attach weight bearing attachments.

Yes, I was concerned that the metal thickness on the square tube would not allow much load. And it already has a spare tire and bracket clamped to it.

So could I have something welded to the front-to-back I beams that might support something like a cargo basket?

I'm no structural engineer but I believe the frame is also too weak. My evidence ... you can't place any lifting load on the stabilizer jacks without flexing the camper.

Get you a bigger truck.

what did you end up doing ?

Nothing yet. After I put a camper shell on the truck, I ended up with enough additional storage space in the truck to take care of my current needs.
