Default Replace the sliding door with screen

We never use the sliding door. Now it has become discolored yellow. Instead of replacing it in kind, I am thinking about replacing it with a screened section. When we latch the top door section open, it blocks off the air coming in the window next to it. So a screened section (instead of the slider) would help to increase the breeze through the trailer. Has anyone ever tried this? Any advice?

You are not going to gain that much additional airflow in that small of an area by installing a screen in place of the slider panel in my opinion. Just replace the old sliding panel with a clear piece of plexiglass.

I agree. The other consideration is how the air moves. We have a FanTastic fan in our trailer that sits right above the kitchen area, which is next to the door. I always have the fan set to exhaust air out the top of the trailer. And, it is thermostatically controlled to increase speed at higher temperatures. It also has a rain sensor so it shuts off and closes if it rains.

If the door is open, most of the circulation is within the kitchen (in through the door and straight up and out of the fan).

To cool the trailer, I really want the air to come through the front window louvers, that way it moves the whole length of the trailer before going out through the fan. So, that window is always open when we camp. We open or close the two side windows as conditions warrant. For instance, if there's a breeze blowing against the side of the trailer, then those two windows would let it pass through.

There is also a small kitchen window that is open or closed as conditions require.

Your trailer likely has a different fan and window setup, but using what I've described as a guide might give you better cooling than you've been experiencing.

Agree with you, Jack. Just sitting in the yard, I open a slider window in the bedroom and turn on the front fan on low. With the door closed I can feel a slight breeze. For additional flow volume, I'll also turn on the fan in the bath. As an added (but unwanted) feature, with all windows closed and all three fans on high, I easily find where the bulb seal isn't sealing!
