Do you want to caulk around all the gadgets on the roof or do you want to recoat the roof?

I suppose I could do either--the roof is in good shape, just have a little bit of caulk that is cracked and looks like it needs to be redone--everything else looks ok. Any suggestions?

thanks

Lexel seems to be the caulk of choice. Kool Seal for recoating.

caulk and recoat roof-

I am thinking I that I should recoat the roof of my hilo as well as recaulk the seams and roof mounted gagets...Is there a preferred order? Caulk first then recoat? or visa-versa?

any information will be appreciated

thanks,
dennis

My choice would be to apply the caulk first. Try to remove any old, defective caulk and clean the application areas carefully before caulking. Allow the new caulk to cure fully before recoating.

I got a tube of something from my rv dealer this spring which I havent used yet- but he said it was "self leveling". Made sense to me for the stuff on top. However- LEXEL does seem to seal pretty good but I find I need to work it pretty fast to make it look ok, though, on top, it doesn't much matter.

sealing roof and windows

HI-
probably answered before on the forum but I cant find it-I have a 2008 15 foot hi lo-I believe the roof is aluminum. I had some cracked caulking on the roof that I repaired-I would like to reseal the whole roof-do I apply kool seal just over the seams on the roof or do I apply it to the entire roof?

Also, do I apply the kool seal over existing caulking like around the air conditioner etc?

I also see that the caulking around the side windows is beginning to fail-
what kind of caulk should I use to re-seal the windows?

thanks,

Dennis B

Dennis,

You may already know this, but just in case someone else doesn't, here's a great way to search for information on a website, including our forum. I find it more effective than the forum search function, and more flexible.

As an example, let's say you're looking for information on "sealing roof and windows", and want to search the forum for threads that have such information.

Simply go to an empty tab in your browser and type "sealing roof and windows" followed by "site:." followed by the website you want it to search, in this case, "www.hilotrailerforum.com"

Without all the quotation marks, it looks like this:

sealing roof and windows site:.www.hilotrailerforum.com

The text in red, "site:." is the key, and of course I just typed it in red for emphasis. Those 6 characters go between the topic of interest, and the website you want to search.

Click "enter" and you'll get a bunch of threads about "sealing", "roof", "windows", etc. Play with it a little bit.....just type
"sealing roof site:.www.hilotrailerforum.com" and see what you get.
Or, try "best caulk site:.www.hilotrailerforum.com"

It's really quite easy.

Hope this helps.
