Skin or interior?

I've been reading a lot of different ways to replace the wood on campers. Some do it from the inside, some take off the skin. Removing the skin is a little scary to me but I'm going to have to do some repairs and replace the putty anyway.... So I have a couple of questions:

1) Take off the skin and replace or start from the inside?
2) Best hex screw to replace the original Phillips screws that are stripping ?
3) If you've renovated the top half, how did you do it? While raised? On 2x4s? Take it off? (The bottom part of my upper frame needs new wood and the aluminum skin that is folded under now scrapes the bottom half when raising/lowering. Worried I can't fix that.)
4) How do I find the right size for my tires? I discovered that of mine and the spare, I have 3 different tires:-(

Thank you all in advance!

hbassani,

It would be helpful to most of us on the forum to find out what year and model Hi-Lo that you have, so we can answer your questions.

hbassani welcome to the forum

We will do our best to help you. What year and model of HiLo do you have? It makes a difference in how you approach the repairs. Several of us have had to do extensive wall, roof and other repairs. Pictures of the damaged areas would help us to give you spot on advice. It can all be repaired by the do it your selfer. What state or city are you located in?

Its a 1963. No idea if it has a model but it's a 9' model. The most damage is the rear. Probably have to replace all the wood on the back wall and into some of the side on both side as far as I can tell right now. The first two pics are of where the damage is going to be.

Looking forward to getting it started, just don't want to take it off and not be able to raise this thing;-)
