Walking on roof

Hello everyone,

I have a 1989 HiLo classic and I want to know if it is safe to walk on the roof. I'm planning on sealing and painting the roof but I am afraid to walk on it for fear of damaging or denting the roof. It is a metal aluminum roof and it has a few join seams that run across it. I'm not sure how the ceiling/roof support system is constructed on these HiLos. Should I be worried about walking on it? Any Concerns?

Thanks for any help.

Angel.

walking on the roof.

I have owned two HiLLOS. Our present on has an aluminum roof. DH has gone up on the roof to apply one coat of primer and two coats of aluminum roof coating. He is 166lbs. It is best to kneel down when up on the roof. No problem doing any kind of maintenance on the roof.

I've been on my aluminum roof many times. Usually, I'm on all 4s, but I have walked on it. I weigh 200#. It is designed to support you unless you're a real heavyweight. I prefer all 4s because I don't put the stabilizers down and the trailer rocks like a boat with me up there.

I'll say just the opposite "don't walk on the roof " use a couple of ladders and planks and do the seal and coating from the sides. I kneeled on my roof and dented the ceiling down, then I had a puddle and a leak by the AC afterwards. Don't forget these campers are old!!!

Thank you Garyk52, Jack, & usagi5678, and all;

I will certainly keep all these suggestions in mind when coating the HiLo roof.

I only walk on the roof in the down position and when I do, I lay a piece of plywood down to kinda displace my weight. Never had any issues.

Although I try not to get up on the roof of our aluminum roof 2307C any more than absolutely necessary, I do check seams (and re-caulk as necessary) spring and fall. I never get on the roof with the upper section raised, and always crawl on all 4's to distribute my weight (a bit over 200 lbs) - have never seen any evidence of dimpling or distortion in the roof as a result.

Good Ideas! Thank you RCREYES & oldcarguy and all.

The Elastomeric product that I ordered is ready for me to pick up at the big box store. I will have to wait for warmer days here in So. California before applying it. I will post update progress soon.
